Farnhamville Elementary – Principal Jim Duncan JAGUAR JUBILATIONS:
PVE’s Winter FAST Assessments scores reflect good progress for our elementary students! Some might have expected lower scores due to the Covid-19 impact from last spring, but our students, families, and staff have worked very hard to help our students progress! GO JAGS!
Transitional Kindergarten & Kindergarten Round-Up for the upcoming 2021-22 school year is set for Fri. April 9th, 2021. Curriculum Report – Dr. Linda Hunecke
In the fall of 2018 our buildings were introduced to a new school improvement protocol being shared from the Iowa Department of Education called Self Assessment of MTSS Implementation (SAMI). To begin unpacking this work, I should explain that MTSS stands for Multi-Tiered System of Supports. MTSS is a framework of considering all possible data (academic, attendance, social- emotional and behavioral) components of a student’s school experience and providing the appropriate supports needed at a particular point in time. Sometimes one specific area needs more attention than others, and other times it might be a combination of factors that poses a stumbling block to future success. As a school team, it is our responsibility to search for ways to address these needs based on the information we have. Getting back to SAMI, during the 2018-2019 school year each building engaged in the work of assessing how they, as a team, are progressing toward school improvement. Leadership teams in each building began with an in-depth discussion and rating scale for five different areas: Leadership, Assessment & Data Based Decision Making, Universal Instruction, Intervention System and Infrastructure. Priority for the starting point was given to the area that the leadership teams selected, and an action plan was written for each building. Best practice is that these action plans are reviewed and revised as new information on programs, practices, and curricular considerations are gathered in the process of continuous improvement. As you know, our 2019-2020 school year was significantly interrupted, and we are back on track this year! Building teams will be conducting their next round of these reviews during the rest of February and early March. Our current district goal of 85% of students proficient in literacy prompted all buildings to prioritize literacy as a starting point. With this as a benchmark on our way to 100%, each building’s leadership team has chosen an effective and efficient vehicle for this journey. Review of the action plans reveals benchmarks for celebration as well as providing indicators of progress along the way. School improvement is always a work in progress. If you are interested in more details about this please contact me or the building principals.
Southeast Valley Middle School – Principal Greg Slininger
Wrestling continues at the middle school, and the student athletes are doing well! In spite of some snow days, they are getting more competitions in this year than last, so that is good! Our winter Fastbridge testing is over. Our reading scores held steady, and our math scores did decline from the spring. Linda will have those numbers within her curriculum report. We are getting close to our second set of conferences The week of March 15. Those conferences will be managed much the same as the fall conferences were. The students are continuing to handle themselves responsibly, and all students and staff are continuing to be resilient and flexible within the educational world the pandemic has put us in this year. I am proud of all of them! 100% In-School vs. Hybrid vs. 100% Online Our face to face student numbers continue to rise. Last month we had 11 hybrid students and 22 100% online students. Currently we have 14 hybrid students and 19 100% online students. With a current population of 322, our hybrid and online population stayed at 10%. However, we not only got 3 students back face-to-face that had previously been 100% online with Edgenuity, we also got 3 students back into the building who had previously been home schooled. It is good to keep getting them back
Southeast Valley High School – Principal Kerry Ketcham

Mickayla Willison (2017), Robert Jepsen (2020), and Carter Lane (2020) at the University of Iowa were named to the dean's list for the 2020 fall semester. Congratulations to Jubilee Cunigan. She received an Honorable Mention for her short story "Genetically Altered Roses" in the Scholastic Writing and Arts competition. Congratulations to Caelan Oakes-Sudish, Zackary Miller, Lathe Muench, Harley Bryson and Aaron Graves on their top 2 finishes at Sectionals this past Saturday. General -Winter reporting to the state is completed. This always occupies a lot of hours of work in January. Special thanks to MaChelle Showers for all of her efforts to get it right while still beating the reporting deadline. Interviewing and hiring continue for next year. Trimester finals will be held on Feb. 18 and 19. New classes will begin on Monday, Feb. 22. Trimester 2 grades will go out on that Monday as well. Discussions are underway to rework the master schedule to eliminate as many class conflicts as possible. As part of that discussion, we are looking at the possibility of making band and choir opposite each other the same period of the day because there is a lot of overlap and many students have to choose to give up 2 periods of their day to take both. We are also looking at moving the audition groups – jazz band and chamber choir – to outside the school day as extracurricular activities. Chamber choir may also morph into jazz choir.
Mr. Johnson updated the boards regarding the current legislative news. Things are moving quickly in Des Moines. Changing daily. There were no specific bills discussed.
