Southeast Valley Community School District 

Wednesday, February 18, 2026 

Southeast Valley Central Office 

6:30 PM 


The Board of Education of Southeast Valley Community School District met in a regular session. President Hefley called the meeting to order at 6:30PM. 

Roll Call: 

Joni Hefley, Allan Wicklein, Sean Stewart, Katie VanSickle, Jeff Ackerson, Heidi McGuire and Lindsey Eslick Absent: None 


Additional attendees were, Brian Johnson, Superintendent and Lisa Willardson, Business Manager, Shayden Hefley, Student Body Representative.  

Motion by SS, seconded by HM to approve the consent items. Consent items included agenda, minutes from prior meeting, payment of bills presented, personnel changes as presented and any open enrollment requests. 

There were no open enrollment requests 

Personnel items included:  

The resignation of Mylie Davis, MS Volleyball Coach, Danielle Border MS Band Teacher, Sheridan Zeka, MS Band Teacher. Additional resignations are Kim Dosland and Devan Walker as Senior Class Sponsors. Kara Stuelke’s resignation as EL Para was approved as well. Hiring of Amber Klingson, HS Secretary, Piper Derushia for MS Teacher, Ellie Nolte as MS Softball Coach. Ayes: Hefley, Wicklein, Stewart, McGuire, Ackerson, VanSickle, Ackerson 

Nays: None 

Motion carries 7-0 


Committee reports:  

School Improvement – SIAC Meeting set for March 4, 2026 in Farnhamville.  

Public Relations –None at this time.  

Facilities & Grounds –None at this time.  

Negotiations/Finance – None at this time. 

Transportation – None at this time. 


Motion by AW, seconded by KV to approve the financials as presented.  

Ayes: Hefley, Wicklein, Stewart, McGuire, Ackerson, VanSickle, Ackerson 

Nays: None 

Motion carries 7-0 


Administrative reports were provided to the board for each building as well as curriculum. Copies of the reports are available in the Central Office upon request.  

Additional updates on the legislative process occurred. The SSA was set at 2%. It is interesting to note that if the SSA had been 2.25%, the property tax rate would actually have been lower.  

Motion by KV, seconded by JA to approve the DECA Nationals trip to Atlanta April 25-29, 2026. 

Ayes: Hefley, Wicklein, Stewart, McGuire, Ackerson, VanSickle, Ackerson 

Nays: None 

Motion carries 7-0 


Pete Carlon and Jeff Kruse asked to address the board about a request to name the football field after Don Lewis, a former Prairie football and track coach. The Board will form a committee to look at a policy on naming rights for school facilities.  

Motion by KV, seconded by LE to approve the E-rate N1 Critical Universal Power Supply devices as presented. Ayes: Hefley, Wicklein, Stewart, McGuire, Ackerson, VanSickle, Ackerson 

Nays: None 

Motion carries 7-0

Motion by HM, seconded by AW to approve the Chromebooks for FY 2027 for the HS and MS in the amount of $64,942. Ayes: Hefley, Wicklein, Stewart, McGuire, Ackerson, VanSickle, Ackerson 

Nays: None 

Motion carries 7-0 


Motion by HM, seconded by JA to approve the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget for Publication. The Budget Hearing will be Wed., March 25, 2026 in the Central Office.  

Ayes: Hefley, Wicklein, Stewart, McGuire, Ackerson, VanSickle, Ackerson 

Nays: None 

Motion carries 7-0 


Motion by AW, seconded by KV to approve the Budget Guarantee Resolution for the 2026-2027 Fiscal Year. Be it RESOLVED, that the Board of Directors of Southeast Valley Community School District will levy property tax for fiscal year 2026-2027 for the regular program budget adjustment as allowed under section 257.14, Code of Iowa. 

Ayes: Hefley, Wicklein, Stewart, McGuire, Ackerson, VanSickle, Ackerson 

Nays: None 

Motion carries 7-0 


Motion by HM, seconded by AW to approve the Public Budget Hearing for the 20276-2027 school year for Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 6:20 PM in the Central Office in Gowrie.  

Ayes: Hefley, Wicklein, Stewart, McGuire, Ackerson, VanSickle, Ackerson 

Nays: None 

Motion carries 7-0 


A conversation regarding the possibility of selling a strip of the Boxholm property that is being sold to the city directly to the Grand Heritage Foundation. No motion was made.  

The next meeting will be held March 25, 2026 at 6:30 PM, following the public budget hearing.
