The Public Budget Hearing began at 6:20 PM. President Hefley opened up the hearing for public comment and questions. There were no questions or comments regarding the Southeast Valley FY 2027 proposed budget.

The Board of Education of Southeast Valley Community School District met in a regular session. President Hefley called the meeting to order at 6:30PM.
Roll Call:
Joni Hefley, Allan Wicklein, Sean Stewart, Katie VanSickle, Jeff Ackerson, Heidi McGuire and Lindsey Eslick Absent: None
Additional attendees were, Brian Johnson, Superintendent and Lisa Willardson, Business Manager, Shayden Hefley, Student Body Representative.
Motion by SS, seconded by JA to approve the consent items. Consent items included agenda, minutes from prior meeting, payment of bills presented, personnel changes as presented and any open enrollment requests.

Personnel items included:
The resignation of Tim McCloud as MS teacher, Johanna Peterson has HS Ag teacher and FFA Sponsor, Andrea Walsh as part time Instructional Leader and Tamara Hanson as HS Individual Speech Sponsor. The full-time substitute positions in both elementary schools as well as the middle school will not be offered next year. All 3 will be offered positions as associates. The hiring of Josiah Fisher for HS Band Teacher, Blake Peterson for HS Ag Teacher, Lisa Baird for HS Special Education Teacher. Additional contracts approved for Abby Peterson and Chelsey Danielson for MS tack coaches and Tara Ely for HS Volleyball Coach. It was also approved to reduce the three full time sub positions for the 2026-2027 school year due to budgetary reductions.

Committee reports:
School Improvement – The SIAC meeting occurred in March. 1 community member attended
Public Relations –None at this time.
Facilities & Grounds – Getting some bids to redo the entry and exit from the High School Parking lot. Hoping to reseal the HS parking lot as well as the Middle School and District Office parking lots.
Negotiations/Finance – An agreement has been reached. Will be approved later in the meeting.
Transportation – Bus Leases have been sent for approval. Will be approved later in the meeting.
Melinda Stewart, Nutrition Director spoke regarding the recent Nutrition audit that the district went through. Results were good, but we were notified that we will need to increase our prices to bring them up to what the current amounts should be. We have been offering them low for sometime.
Jaguar Jubilations – Lisa Willardson reported to the Board regarding the Band and Choir trip to Branson, MO. The trip was amazing and the students behaved great. No issues to report, and the kids had a blast. The trip was a total success.

The reports from the buildings were presented. Copies are available in the Central Office for anyone that would like them.
Mr. Johnson gave an update on the legislative status. He expressed some frustration with the state of things, and the feeling that the state is not looking out for public schools’ best interest.

Motion by AW, seconded by JA to approve the Milk bid from Anderson Erickson and the bread bid from Bimbo for the 2026-2027 school year.

Motion by AW, seconded by SS to approve the FY 27 Local Government Risk Pool for Natural Gas.

Motion by SS, seconded by HM to approve the lease purchase with Wells Fargo bank for 5 buses. There will be 3 gas powered buses as well as 2 propane powered buses. The total lease Pay Proceeds will be $737,621, including the documentation fee. Due to the dollar amount, the district will also reach out to Ahlers law firm for a legal opinion letter to send to the Wells Fargo. Ayes: Hefley, Wicklein, Stewart, McGuire, Ackerson, VanSickle, Ackerson

Motion by LE, seconded by HM to approve the FY 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 Teacher Contracts.This will be a 2 year agreement, as presented.
