Board of Education Special School Board Meeting  

Southeast Valley Community School District 

Wednesday, October 16, 2024 

Southeast Valley Central Office 

6:30 PM 


A public hearing was held at 6:25 PM regarding a proposal to convey the property described as Lot 1 in Parcel D in the Town of  Boxholm, Boone County, Iowa to the City of Boxholm, Iowa for $1,250.00 and other good and valuable consideration.  

A copy of the proposal may be reviewed at the District administrative offices located at 1111 Beek Street, Gowrie, IA, 50543. 

The Board of Education of Southeast Valley Community School District met in a regular session. President Miller called the meeting to  order at 6:30 PM 

Roll Call: 

Shannon Miller, Allan Wicklein, Katie VanSickle, Sean Stewart, Jeff Ackerson 

Absent: Jim Carlson, Joni Hefley 


Motion by Wicklein,seconded by VaSickle to approve the consent items. Consent items include agenda, minutes from prior meeting, payment of bills  presented, personnel changesand any open enrollment requests. 

Personnel included the following: 


Resignation: None at this time. 

Hiring

o Lauren Jackson – HS Wrestling Cheer Advisor 

o John Kastendieck – Part-Time Repairs and Maintenance 


Ayes: Miller, Wicklein, Stewart, VanSickle,Ackerson 

Nays: None 

Motion carries 5-0 


Committee reports: - 

School Improvement – None at this time 

Public Relations – None at this time 

Facilities & Grounds – Discussion regarding pavement work that needs to be done at the Farnhamville building, as well as bringing   a general handyman to do some general maintenance. John Kastendieck has agreed to do this.  Negotiations/Finance – None at this time. 

Transportation – Jeff Ackerson and Allen Wicklein were appointed by the Superintendent to serve on the Transportation   Committee 


Administrative reports were given. Information is available in the Central Office 

Motion by Stewart,seconded by Ackerson to approve the financials as presented.  

Ayes: Miller, Wicklein, Stewart, VanSickle,Ackerson  

Nays: None 

Motion carries 5-0 


Motion by Wicklein,seconded by Stewartto approve the first and waive the secondreading of the entire 700 series of policies as presented.  Ayes: Miller, Wicklein, Stewart, VanSickle,Ackerson  

Nays: None 

Motion carries 5-0 


Motion by Stewart,seconded by Ackerson to approve the out of state field trip for the FFA group to go to theNational Convention in Indianapolis,  October 23rd through 26th.  

Ayes: Miller, Wicklein, Stewart, VanSickle,Ackerson  

Nays: None 

Motion carries 5-0

Motion by Wicklein,seconded by Stewartto approve the first and waive the second reading of the entire 700 series of policies as presented.  Ayes: Miller, Wicklein, Stewart, VanSickle,Ackerson  

Nays: None

A conversation took place regarding the possibility of remodeling the high school locker rooms. The consensus was that we open it up to bids to see  how much it would cost.  

We will have a 2nd public hearing prior to the November 20, 2024 meeting at 6:25 PM regarding the sale of the Boxholm Parking Lot.  The next meeting will be November 20, 2024 at 6:30 PM at the Central Office in Gowrie.
