Back to Back 3pt FG's Spark JV Offense

The JV Boys' Basketball team visited Alta-Aurelia on Friday, January 5th, and returned home with a 64-25 victory. The road win improves the JV record back to .500 and 5-5 on the season.

The Jaguars offense started out slow in the beginning, trailing 6-10 with 1:00 to go in the opening quarter of play. At the first quarter break, the Jaguars closed out the final minute of the quarter on a 5-1 run to knot it all 11-11.

In the 2nd quarter of the ball game, the Jaguars and Warriors again found themselves all tied up with a score of 15-15 with four minutes remaining in the 1st half. The Jaguar defense stepped up their efforts and held the Warriors scoreless for over 4 minutes, all while increasing a lead to 19-15 with two minutes of play remaining in the half. Back to back three pointers made in almost the same identical spot on the floor by Hayden Butrick really swung the momentum in the Jaguars favor and the lead ballooned to 29-19 entering the intermission break. The 6-0 run after the déjà vu two three pointers and 10-4 run to close out the half really sparked what was to be a dominant second half.

In the second half, the Jags kept the momentum rolling and outscored the Warriors 22-2 in the 3rd, and 13-4 in the 4th. The Jaguars as a team were 25/43 from 2pt range on the night, a season best. Spencer Peterson, Karson Roper, and Butrick combined to shoot 4-7 from 3pt land (the rest of the team 0-7).

Hayden Burtrick sparked the offense with his 12 points, shooting 5-7 from the field and was the leading scorer in the contest. Nick Field also shot well from the field, going 4-6 in the paint and finished with 8 points. Field also secured 4 rebounds, matching both Gauge Jones and Cornell Lowery with 4 rebounds in the game. Lowery also added 7 points and 2 steals. Tyler Jondle and Bryce Harrison (1 blocked shot) combined to shoot 6-11 from the floor and each scored 6 points. Jondle also had a game high 7 assists, and 4 steals. Karson Roper and Lincoln Akins scored 5 points, with Roper earning 5 steals and 3 assists on the night. The trio of Ethan Tucker, Hayden Greene, and Spencer Peterson all scored 4 points, with Peterson adding 6 steals and 2 blocked shots on the defensive end of the floor. Rounding out the Jaguars in scoring was Gauge Jones with 2 points and 2 assists.

End of Quarter Scores: SV 11, A-A 11; SV 29, A-A 19; SV 51, A-A 21; SV 64, A-A 25.
