Boys Defeat Greene County

The Southeast Valley Varsity Boys' basketball team took care of business on Monday, February 7th; defeating our neighbor to the south, Greene County Community Schools, by the score of 62-32. The thirty point win over the Rams now places Southeast Valley with a .500 record at 10-10 on the season.

The game started out to a slow-start for Southeast Valley, as they struggled in the first three minutes of the ball game, trailing the Rams 2-9 before Coach Johnson called a first quarter timeout just under the 5:00 mark. The Jaguars responded well after the timeout and ended the first quarter on a 15-5 run to lead 17-14 at the end of the opening quarter. In the second quarter of the game, the Jaguars increased their lead to a ten point advantage just before half, leading 30-20 and then again 32-22. But before the halftime buzzer, Greene County got an easy basket to lower the point differential to eight to end the half.

In the final two quarters, Southeast Valley shut down the Greene County offense, with SV allowing only 8 total points scored in the final sixteen minutes of the contest. The Jaguars did not allow a single field goal in the fourth quarter. Southeast Valley also wreaked havoc on the boards all night, as they secured a season-high 42 rebounds in the game. The previous high for rebounds in a game was set last week vs. SCC where SV collected 32 rebounds. The Jaguars improvement in rebounding has been a focal point the last several weeks, and it's beginning to show out there on the floor.

Aaron Graves paced the Jaguars in both scoring and rebounding, going for 21 points with 15 rebounds. Kolson Kruse scored 19 points in the game, with 14 of them coming in the second half. Tre Fisher chipped in with 7 points and 3 steals. Eli Johnson added 4 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and one blocked shot attempt put up by the Ram offense. Justin Loseke also scored 4 points, and grabbed 5 rebounds in the game. Drew Corell scored 3 points and dished out 3 assists. Nate Scott and Tyler Moreland rounded out the Jaguars scoring effort with 2 points apiece. Carter Ferry tallied one offensive rebound and had one creative assist that fooled the Ram defense. Brady Hanson had one rebound in the game, and Dalton Crouse finished with one assist. Carl Berglund also played in the game.

End of Quarter Scores: SV led 17-14, 32-24, 45-29, 62-32
