Boys Were Flat vs PAC
The Southeast Valley Varsity Boys' basketball team laid an egg as they returned home for the first time since December 17th, falling by the score of 56-64 to Pocahontas Area on Tuesday, January 25th. The loss to PAC, now with an improved record of 5-10, could possibly negatively impact postseason seeding assignments and SV's chances to host tournament play in their new gymnasium. Southeast Valley's record is now at 8-7 on the season.
To begin the game, SV started the game ice cold, trailing 1-8 in the first few minutes of the ball game. SV trailed all of the opening period until Aaron Graves hit Tre Fisher in the corner for an open 3-pointer to take a 17-15 lead just towards the end of the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter, both the Indians and Jaguars traded baskets throughout with both teams respectively scoring 18 points. At the halftime break, SV led by two with a 35-33 advantage. In the second half, the Jaguars' lack of rebounding and inability to keep PAC out of the paint allowed PAC to earn the road victory, as they outscored and out-played SV, with the Indians outscoring the Jaguars 31-21 to finish off the game. The Jaguars were outrebounded 45-28, a key component that contributed towards the final result of the game. Poor shooting and the inability to get to the free throw line, compared to Pocahontas Area, also contributed to the loss for the Jaguars.
Aaron Graves paced the Jaguars in scoring with 21 points (3-5 from 3pt), 15 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocked shots. Kolson Kruse finished with 9 points, 6 assists, and 5 steals. Drew Corell chipped in with 8 points and 3 rebounds. Justin Loseke added 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Eli Johnson, in his first game back after an ankle injury, scored 5 points, with 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Tre Fisher scored 3 points and 1 steal. Kaleb Scott rounded out the Jaguar scoring with 2 points and 2 blocked shots. Carter Ferry also played in the game.
End of Quarter Scores: SV led 17-15, SV 35-33, SV 44-43, PAC 64-56.
