Great 2nd Half/4th Quarter Propels SV JV to 41-34 Home Win

An excellent second half helped the Southeast Valley junior varsity basketball team earn a hard fought 41-34 victory over East Sac County on Friday, February 2nd.

After trailing the majority of the ball game, and experiencing their largest deficit of the night, down 16-25 with three minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, the young Jaguars clawed their way back into a fighting chance. Solid defensive output and all-out hustle cut the 9 point and 7 point disadvantages to just one point going into the final quarter of play, with a score of 28-29. Byrce Harrison's 3pt FG, a 3/4 quarter court heave at the end of the 3rd quarter buzzer, was called a shooting foul; and Harrison calmly knocked down all three free throws, which also helped with the momentum swing in the second half. The Jaguars were able to rise up and take the lead in the first minute of the 4th quarter and never looked back, momentum fully in their grasp. The Jaguars closed out the 4th quarter on a 13-5 run and secured the 41-34 victory.

The Jaguars outscored East Sac 26-15 in the second half, and only allowed 5 points in the game clinching 4th quarter. The Jaguars did an excellent job getting to the free throw line in the 2nd half, going 12 for 20 from the charity stripe in the 3rd and 4th quarters. For the entire game, the Jaguars were 15 for 24 from behind the foul line.

Bryce Harrsion again was the leading scorer in the ball game, putting up 18 points (9 for 11 from FT), securing 9 rebounds, earning 4 steals, and dishing out a team high 3 assists on the night. Karson Roper chipped in with 8 points and 3 steals with great effort. Tyler Jondle added 4 points and 2 assists. Ethan Tucker, Nick Field, and Cornell Lowery all scored 3 points, with Field adding 6 rebounds in the paint. Gauge Jones scored 2 points and had 5 rebounds to round out the Jaguars in the scoring column. Spencer Peterson had 2 steals on the defensive end of the floor, and Lincoln Akins tallied one defensive rebound.

End of Quarter Scores: SV 5, East Sac 9; SV 15, East Sac 19; SV 28, East Sac 29; SV 41, East Sac 34.
