Jags Fall to SCC
The SV Varsity Boys' basketball team travelled west to Rockwell City on Tuesday, February 1st, to take on the South Central Calhoun Titans in Twin Lakes Conference action. In the end, the Jaguars fell by the score of 63-74.
After trailing by 17 points at the halftime break, and trailing as much as 22 points at the end of the 3rd quarter, SV fought back and used a huge 4th quarter to cut the deficit to just a six-point game with just under half the quarter remaining. SV kept the Titans to just 5 points scored in 4:30 of the 4th quarter. Kolson Kruse got hot in the second half, scoring 22 of his 26 points in the final 16 minutes of the game, connecting on 5-7 from 3pt land to help SV outscore SCC 42-36 in the second half of the game. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, the deficit at the start of the 2nd quarter and at halftime was just too big to overcome. The Jaguars outrebounded the Titans in the contest, with SV securing 32 rebounds compared to SCC's 28. Interesting side note compared to their previous matchup where SV was outrebounded 22-29 and outscored 66-85 by SCC in the first matchup of the season.
Kruse ended up shooting 6-11 from deep and added 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists to go along with his game-high 26 points (SCC's Joshua Dietrich scored 25 pts). Aaron Graves also scored in double-figures, scoring 24 points with 12 rebounds (also a game-high), and 4 assists on his way to yet another double-double on the season. Tre Fisher chipped in with 6 points and 4 steals. Kaleb Scott also added 6 points, while also adding 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and one steal in the game. Drew Corell added one point, one assist, and one steal. Also playing and contributing in the game was Eli Johnson (2 rebounds, 2 steals), Carter Ferry (1 rebound), Justin Loseke (3 rebounds, 1 steal), and Nate Scott.
End of Quarter Scores: SCC led 25-15, 38-21, 61-39.
