Jags Win First Game of the Season
The Southeast Valley Varsity Boys' basketball team hollowed out an 80-65 victory over the Madrid Tigers on Thursday, December 2nd, just a few weeks removed from being crowned Class 2A State Champions in football.
The Jags made the transition from the football field to the hardwood pretty smoothly, scoring 20-points in each of the 4 quarters. Kolson Kruse came out red-hot after his performance in the UNI-Dome, scoring 33 points on 10-11 shooting, connecting on 5 of 6 from 3-point land. Kruse also contributed 6 assists and 6 steals in the game, while only committing 1 turnover. The hot shooting didn't just end there with Kruse, as Senior Aaron Graves shot 9-13 from the field, scoring 23 points, dishing out 6 assists, and blocking 2 Madrid shot attempts. Junior Eli Johnosn led the team in rebounding with 9 rebounds, just 1 rebound short from earning him a double-double as he scored 10 points in the contest. Johnson scored 8 of his 10 points in the second half. Juniors Drew Corell and Justin Loseke each scored 6 points a piece, with Corell adding 5 rebounds and 3 assists, and Loseke second in team-rebounding with 7 caroms off the glass and 2 steals. Junior Carl Berglund rounded outhe Jaguar scoring with 2 points and 2 assists. Sophomores Andrew Miller and Carter Ferry also saw some time on the basketball court.
The largest lead in the game was a 25-point advantage late in the 3rd quarter, as the Jags led 60-35. As a team, the Jaguars shot 53% from 3pt land and outrebounded the Madrid Tigers 28-22.
