JV Boys Basketball 1/5 & 1/6

The JV Boys' basketball team began the 2023 New Year on the right note, celebrating with back-to-back wins on January 5th and January 6th.

In the first game back after the winter break, SV held on and defeated the Glidden-Ralston Wildcats by the score of 37-30. After holding a 3 point lead early in the 1st quarter, the Jaguars entered the half-time break with an 8 point advantage, leading 22-14. In the 3rd quarter, the Jaguars led as much as 12 points before allowing the Wildcats to close out the 3rd quarter on a 6-2 run in just the final minute of the 3rd period, resulting in a 30-25 score going into the final period. In the end, the Jags outscored their opponent 7-5 in the final 7 minutes to hold on and secure the win.

Scoring for Jaguars: Brady Hanson 10, Cale VanSickle 9, Jace Hanson 6, Carter Ferry 6, Tyler Moreland 3, Preston Kennedy 2, and Hane Sorenson 1. (No other statistical attributes to share, my apologies)

End of Quarter Scores: SV led 11-8, 22-14, 30-25, 37-30.

The next night, the Jaguars welcomed the Warriors from Alta-Aurelia onto SV's homecourt, putting forth a dominating 2nd and 3rd quarter to win the game by the score of 48-26. The game started off pretty close early on in the opening quarter, with A-A leading 3-2 after the first two minutes of the ball game; and SV only leading 11-8 at the conclusion of the opening period. After switching up the full-court pressure from full-man to a zone press, the Jaguars caused havoc in the passing lanes and applied the necessary pressure on the ball handlers when needed to outscore the Warriors 30-6 in both the 2nd and 3rd quarters. The Jaguars tallied a season high 21 steals in the game, with a majority of them coming in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

Carter Ferry paced the Jaguars in scoring with his 11 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals in just two quarters of play. Ross Larson added 8 points, and led the team with 5 steals and 4 assists. Cale VanSickle chipped in with 7 points and a team high 9 rebounds (5 on the offensive glass). VanSickle also added 2 steals. Tyler Moreland added 6 points and 3 rebounds. The duo of Hane Sorenson and Brady Hanson each scored 5 points and 2 steals in the contest. Sorenson also tallied 4 rebounds, and B. Hanson secured 3 offensive rebounds. Jace Hanson totaled 4 points, 7 rebounds (matching VanSickle with 5 offensive rebounds) and had one blocked shot in just two quarters of play. Preston Kennedy rounded out the Jaguar scoring with 2 points scored and 4 total rebounds for his efforts in the game. Brad Pliner contributed with 4 total rebounds, 3 steals, and a fair share of deflections on the defensive end.  Lincoln Akins tallied 2 steals and Nick Field secured 1 offensive rebound.

End of Quarter Scores: SV led 12-8, 29-12, 42-14, 48-26.
