JV Boys' Basketball Week of December 13

The Southeast Valley Junior Varsity Boys' basketball teams opened up the week of December 13th with back-to-back home contests on Monday and Tuesday; first defeating South Central Calhoun by the score of 52-30 on Monday night, and followed the next night with a victory over the Manson Northwest-Webster Cougars by the score of 41-29.  


In the SCC matchup, the Jaguars jumped out to an early 14-3 lead at the end of the 1st quarter, and led by as much as 24-5 midway through the 2nd quarter. In the final 3 minutes, however, the SCC Titans closed out the half on a 10-6 run resulting in a 26-13 halftime score. In the second half, the Jaguars were able to outscore SCC 26-17 to secure the 22-point victory.


A total of three Jaguar players reached double-digits in scoring, led by Sophomore Carter Ferry with 14 points, followed by fellow-classmate Andrew Miller with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Junior Nate Scott chipped in with 10 points and 4 rebounds. Tyler Paterson scored 8 points, six of which coming in the 4th quarter where the Jags outscored the Titans 15-8. Dalton Crouse added 4 points and 3 steals. Ross Larson rounded out the Jaguar scoring efforts with 3 points. Freshman Brady Hanson played solid defense in the contest, as he tallied 4 steals, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists in the game.  


In the Tuesday night game versus MNW, the Jaguars again jumped out to an early advantage, leading 12-4 at the end of the 1st quarter. With two minutes remaining in the half, a 19-9 lead shrieked down to only a 21-18 lead just under a minute, as the SV defense stalled and allowed four made three-pointers in the 2nd quarter by the Cougar offense. MNW had outscored the Jaguars 14-11 to get the game back to a 5-point margin. In the 3rd quarter, both teams could only muster 3 made FG's each, resulting with only seven points coming from the Jaguar offense and 8 points coming from the Cougars. The Jaguars stepped up their defensive intensity in the 2nd half, especially in the 4th quarter to earn them the 12-point victory. The Jaguars closed out the 4th quarter on a 11-3 to win the game.  


Sophomore Andrew Miller had an overall well-played performance, as he scored a season-high in points and rebounds with 19 points and 8 rebounds, while also tallying 4 steals in the contest. Jace Hanson scored 6 points and played solid defense as he earned himself 4 steals in the game. Dalton Crouse chipped in with 5 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Nate Scott contributed 4 points, 7 rebounds, and 1 blocked shot put up by the MNW offense. Carter Ferry added 3 points and 4 steals in the game. The duo of Brady Hanson and Hane Sorenson rounded out the Jaguar scoring with 2 points apiece. Brady Hanson also earned 2 steals on the night. Ross Larson matched Hanson on the defensive end in steals with 2 steals earned for his efforts on the hardwood. Tyler Paterson collected one offensive rebound and one steal in the game.  


The Junior Varsity record now sits at 4-1 in the early season.
