JV Boys Battle vs Greene County
The Southeast Valley Junior Varsity Boys' basketball team was knocked a bit off course as they dropped one to the Greene County Rams by the score of 47-55 on Monday, February 7th. The eight point loss to the Rams ended Southeast Valley's six game winning steak, which started all the way back on January 6th. The JV record now stands at 14-4 with one final game remaining.
Southeast Valley jumped out to an early 6-0 run in the first two minutes of the ball game, and increased their lead to 13-6 at the conclusion of the opening period. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, this would be their largest lead of the game as the Rams showed relentlessness and stormed back with an 8-2 run of their own to cut SV's seven point lead to just a one-point game with 3 minutes to go in the first half.
At the halftime break, the score was all tied up with a 21-21 reading on the scoreboard. Southeast Valley was outscored 15-7 in the third quarter, concluding with the Rams connecting on a three-point buzzer beater to extend the Rams lead to an eight-point game with SV trailing 28-36 to start out the 4th quarter.
Now in a precarious position, SV applied full court man-to-man pressure defense in hopes of creating turnovers and cutting the 8-point Rams lead to just a single possession or two but the Rams were able to extend their lead by as much as 43-31 with three minutes remaining in the game. In the final three minutes of the contest, a total of 28 points were scored between the two teams, with SV scoring 16 points on forced turnovers in their press. Both the Rams and the Jaguars scored 19 points in the 4th quarter. Uncharacteristic turnovers and missed opportunities in the paint and at the rim did not help the Jaguars in their pursuit of a 7th consecutive win. Southeast Valley also allowed too much dribble penetration in their zone defense which resulted in easy scoring opportunities for the Rams, especially in the 2nd and 3rd quarters of the ball game.
Carter Ferry paced the Jaguars in scoring with 12 points on 6-10 shooting from the field, while also adding 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Andrew Miller added 8 points with 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Hane Sorenson chipped in with 6 points and one assist in the ball game. Nate Scott added 5 points, 4 rebounds, and one blocked shot. Dalton Crouse, Carl Berglund, Jace Hanson, and Drake Warland all scored 4 points apiece. Jace Hanson also contributed with 4 rebounds and one blocked shot attempt by the Rams offense. Brady Hanson secured 4 rebounds and dished out 4 assists in the contest. Ross Larson, Tyler Moreland and Tyler Paterson also played in the game, with Paterson securing 3 rebounds.
End of Quarter Scores: SV led 13-6, 21-21, GC led 36-28, GC won 55-47.
