JV Boys @ Manson 1.16.24
The JV Boys' basketball team returned to the hardwood, playing in their first contest in 11 days on Tuesday, January 16th, falling by the score of 34-39.
The game was played in Manson versus the Manson Northwest Webster Cougars, a very solid opponent. The cold weather and winter storms the past week limited access to the gym and practice opportunities, resulting in a slow, cold start in the contest. The Jaguars finally scored in the first quarter with an open corner three pointer by Bryce Harrison, beating the end of the quarter buzzer. The Jaguars trailed 3-10 going into the second period.
The Jaguars settled in and found their rhythm, both offensively and defensively, and had a solid 2nd quarter, only trailing by two at the intermission break, with the scoreboard reading 16-18.
The Jaguars opened up the 2nd half on fire, scoring 8 points in the first two minutes of the half and took their first lead of the ball game and a 22-21 lead. The Jaguars then extended their lead to its largest margin on the very next possession, with a score of 24-21 and just under four minutes left in the quarter. Unfortunately, the Cougars also had a turn at getting hot from the field and closed out the quarter on a 10-4 run and entered the final quarter of play up 31-28.
The Jaguars cut the three point deficit to just one with five minutes to go in the game, but that was the closest they would get, and could only score 4 points in the final four minutes of the ball game, finishing with a 34-39 road loss.
Harrison paced the Jaguars in scoring with his 10 points on 4-8 shooting from the field. Harrison also led the team in rebounding and steals, earning 5 boards and 4 steals. Nick Field played an all-around good game, scoring 8 points on 4-4 shooting and had three rebounds and 3 assists. Tyler Jondle, Karson Roper, Cornell Lowery, and Ian Brunner all scored 4 points each. Roper also had 3 rebounds in the game, and Jondle added 3 assists. Gauge Jones did not score but did secure 3 rebounds.
