JV Boys Travel to Jewell
The Southeast Valley Junior Varsity Boys' basketball team opened the second half of the season with a road game versus South Hamilton in Jewell on Tuesday, January 4th, falling by the final score of 32-39.
The Jaguar offense struggled to find a rhythm in the first half, scoring just five points in each of the first two quarters. At the halftime break, SV trailed the South Hamilton Hawks 10-17. The Jaguars trailed as much as 11 points with 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter before going on an 8-0 to cut the score to a 3-point game, trailing 20-23 with two minutes to go in the period. The JV squad outscored the Hawks in the 3rd quarter 13-12. South Hamilton increased their lead to a six point advantage with just 3 minutes remaining before SV again cut the score to a single possession, trailing 30-33 with just under three minutes left in the game. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, South Hamilton closed out the game on a 6-2 run, as the Jaguars could only score two points in the last two and half minutes of the contest. The Hawks and Jaguars tied 22-22 in the second half.
The Jaguars were led by Carter Ferry as he scored a game-high 14 points, 5 steals, and 3 assists. Ross Larson scored 7 points, all coming in the first half, and 4 rebounds. The duo of Andrew Miller and Drake Warland each chipped in with 4 points apiece. Miller led the team in rebounding with 8 boards off the glass. Brady Hanson added 2 points and 5 rebounds. Hane Sorenson rounded out the Jaguar scoring with one point coming from the FT line. Dalton Crouse earned 4 rebounds and 2 assists as he scrambled through early foul trouble. Tyler Moreland collected 2 defensive rebounds for his efforts defensively. Jace Hanson and Tyler Paterson each had one rebound in the game.
End of Quarter Scores: SV trailed 5-9, 10-17, 23-29, 32-39. The JV record is 6-2 on the season.
