JV Boys Win a Close One at Alta
The Southeast Valley Junior Varsity Boys' basketball team squeaked out a slim two-point victory at Alta-Aurelia on Friday, January 7th, holding on to win 38-36. Although the Jaguars pulled off the 'W', the Jaguars allowed Alta-Aurelia to finish the game on 10-1 run in the last two minutes of the game to leave a rather unpleasant taste in the mouth after an otherwise solid performance through the first 3.5 quarters on the hardwood.
The Jaguars fell behind early in the opening quarter, trailing 2-10 with under a minute remaining. The young Jags then stepped up the energy and effort to cut the Alta-Aurelia Warriors lead to just 4, reading a 12-8 score on the scoreboard after one quarter down. At the 3:00 mark in the 2nd quarter, Sophomore Carter Ferry connected on his first 3-pointer of the game to earn Southeast Valley's first lead of the ball game, leading 15-14. At the half-time break, the Jags were now up 17-14, holding the Warriors to just 2 points scored in the 2nd quarter. The Jaguars continued to increase their lead in the 2nd half, leading by 5 at the start of the 4th quarter. Late in the 4th quarter, the Jags led as much as 11 points, up 37-26, before allowing the Warriors to knock down two back-to-back three pointers as Alta finished the game on the 10-1 scoring run.
Ferry scored a game high in scoring with 15 points on 3-4 shooting from 3-pt range. Brady Hanson and Andrew Miller both chipped in with 9 points apiece. Brady shot the ball well, going 4-4 from the field with one made 3-pointer, whereas Miller led the team in rebounding with 6 rebounds. Tyler Paterson added two points and four rebounds. Hane Sorenson also added two points in the scoring column. Dalton Crouse rounded out the Jaguar scoring with one point and 4 assists. Tyler Moreland recorded 4 total rebounds in the contest. Drake Warland earned 1 steal and 1 blocked shot on the defensive end of the floor. Jace Hanson, Ross Larson, and Ethan Ackerson also played in the game.
