Solid Defensive Pressure in 2nd Half helps SV Climb Back, Make a Game Out of it..

The JV Boys fell by the final score of 30-35 on Monday, February 5th, falling to the Rams from Greene County. The game was played at home in Gowrie, and SV's second to last home game of the season.

The JV boys competed and played hard, never giving up as they had to battle through some tough situations and a few Greene County runs in the first half. Unfortunately, the Rams were able to go on a 5-0 swing late in the 1st quarter and again a 4-0 run to close out the 2nd quarter.

Down 15-25 at the half-time break, SV needed to switch up some defensive strategies and relied on the defensive end to get back into the game as the Jaguars offense wasn't cracking the lid on the rims. The Jaguar defense went with a combination of a 1-3-1 press and a full-court man-to-man press in the second half. The 1-3-1 press did its job in the 3rd quarter-- keeping Greene County from scoring the final 6 minutes of the third quarter and only allowed the Rams to score two points in the 3rd quarter alone. Unfortunately the Jaguar offense also went a span of 4 minutes in the 3rd quarter without scoring as well. The Jaguars did, however, close out the 3rd quarter on a 5-0 run themselves and cut the score to 25-27 entering the 4th quarter.

In the final quarter, the Jaguars had their chances and opportunities, but in the end, the Greene County Rams made the necessary stops on defense and made their free throws to hold on to win the ball game. Again, the Jaguars went on another 4 minute streak of no points scored and it just wasn't their night making baskets. Despite the stagnant offense at times, especially up against the Ram's 3-2 defensive zone, the young JV squad competed and played hard, and stayed together as a team, picking each other up after the loss.

Bryce Harrison paced the Jaguars in scoring with his 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. Gauge Jones added 9 points (4 for 4 from the foul line) and 3 rebounds. Nick Field scored 3 points and had 2 offensive rebounds on the night. Ethan Tucker, Conrell Lowery, and Tyler Jondle all scored two points a piece. Jondle also added 4 assists and 2 steals, while Lowery tallied 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Spencer Peterson rounded out the Jaguar scoring with his one point from the free throw stripe. Karson Roper secured 4 rebounds and had 3 steals and one blocked shot attempt. As a team, the Jaguars were 8 for 10 from the free throw line.

End of Quarter Scores: Jaguars 8, Rams 14; Jaguars 15, Rams 25; Jaguars 25, Rams 27; Jaguars 30, Rams 35.
