Strong 3rd Quarter Propels JV Boys to 18th Win

The SV JV Boys' basketball squad played on the road in Sac City on Friday, February 7th as they went up against the Raiders of East Sac County.  


The game was a defensive battle in the opening quarter, with SV holding a slight 8-7 advantage after 7 minutes of competition. At the half time break, SV increased their advantage to 27-23. In the 3rd quarter, and with some frustrations put aside, the young Jaguars stepped up the defensive energy and made a string of all out hustle plays in the full-court press. In the 3rd quarter alone, the Jaguars scored 29 points (had 27 total at half) and held a 56-32 lead entering the final quarter of play. The Jaguars ultimately won 71-33 after holding East Sac to just 10 points scored in the 2nd half. The JV record sits at 18-0 with only two games remaining.  


For the Jaguars, Bryce Harrison and Nick Field both had impressive games defensively and offensively. Harrison scored a game high 17 points shooting 7 for 8 from the field (2-2 from 3pt) with 9 total assists, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 blocked shot. Field was 7 for 9 from the floor scoring 16 points and added 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals as he made several hustle plays in the second half. Cornell Lowery also reached double-digit figures in scoring with 11 points (4 for 6 shooting) and 2 rebounds. Hayden Butrick scored all of his 8 points in the second half and added 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Karson Roper scored 6 points (3 for 5 FG), 4 steals, and 2 assists. Declan McGuire stepped up big with three of the ten Jaguar players with 4 fouls each, scoring 5 points in the second half. Ian Brunner chipped in with 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. His energy and length helped ignite the spark there in the 3rd quarter. Lincoln Akins and Ethan Tucker each scored 2 points, with Akins also contributing with 2 steals and 2 assists. Hayden Greene earned one assist in the win.
