SV Boys Knock Off Clarion Goldfield Dows

The SV Varsity Boys were up to the challenge of knocking off a ranked opponent, and they believed they could collectively do it after the conclusion of their previous two wins. All they had to do was execute what they all believed could be done. On Thursday, February 10th, the Jaguars faced Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (18-2) in their last home game of the season as well as their last regular-season game before post-season tournament play next week.

With just :08 seconds left in the game, and SV trailing 50-51 for the first time since trailing 13-14 in the 1st quarter, Tre Fisher hit an open Kolson Kruse who attacked the paint and put up the game winning basket that bounced on the rim for what felt like a complete minute; the basket fell through the net and Kruse had earned an 'and one' opportunity with just :01 on the clock. The excitement in the gym and on the bench was spirited, and the team definitely earned and deserved what ended up being a 53-51 victory for the Jaguars.

Southeast Valley put together one of their best games all season, especially when it comes to putting together a complete four quarter ball game. Southeast Valley controlled most of the first three quarters of the game and won each of the first three quarters, leading by as much as ten points late in the 3rd quarter. SV held CGD scoreless for nearly 5 minutes in the third quarter, allowing SV to reach their largest lead of the ball game. The Cowboys, who are ranked in some Iowa basketball polls, didn't back down and made a run at it, chipping away at the score minute-by-minute in the 4th quarter. The Jaguars were outscored 16-10 in the 4th quarter. Late game heroics, and late game rebounding helped lead SV to the upset victory, earning SV their 11th win on the season. Southeast Valley is hoping the momentum and confidence built up over the last 4-5 games will help propel them to an excellent run in postseason play.

Aaron Graves led the team in scoring with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Tre Fisher stepped up big and had one of the biggest impacts on the game, scoring 15 points (2-3pt) and 4 steals. Kruse added just 6 points, but none bigger than his game winning three points just before the final buzzer. Kruse also added 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots. Kaleb Scott added 4 points and 2 assists. Justin Loseke scored 2 points and led the team in rebounding with 8 boards. Drew Corell and Nate Scott rounded out the Jaguar scoring with 2 points apiece. Corell also collected 3 rebounds in the game. Eli Johnson did not score in the game, but he did a great job rebounding with 7 boards and one blocked shot.

End of Quarter Scores: SV led 17-16, 31-28, 43-35, 53-51
