Two Fourth Quarter 3's, a Cruch-time FT, and a Massive Rebound help Secure 33-32 Victory
The SV junior varsity boys basketball team escaped with a 33-32 road victory over SCC on Monday, January 22nd in Lake City.
The young JV squad had an exciting 4th quarter that included two made three pointers, one needed in the most dire of circumstances as the offense had gone cold in the second half of the ball game; a successful free throw by Tyler Jondle with just seconds remaining in the game, and a victory sealing rebound by Hayden Greene after a SCC FT attempt that would have tied the game and sent the contest to OT with just 2.7 seconds remaining in the game.
Nick Field scored 10 points to lead the Jaguars in scoring. The trio of Ethan Tucker, Tyler Jondle, and Gauge Jones all scored 5 points, with Jones leading the team in assists with his 4 passes that led to buckets. Both Lincoln Akins and Hayden Butrick (3 points each) connected on 3pt field goals in the 4th quarter, with Butrick's coming with just a minute or so remaining in the game. The successful three point attempt gave SV back the lead after witnessing SCC take control and earn their first and only lead of the entire ball game. Rounding out the Jaguar scoring was Cornell Lowery with 2 points and a team high 7 rebounds. Byrce Harrison contributed with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Spencer Peterson had 2 rebounds, and Karson Roper had 2 assists and 1 steal. Hayden Greene had 1 rebound and 1 assist.
End of Quarter Scores: SV 12, SCC 9; SV 23, SCC 16; SV 26, SCC 22; SV 33, SCC 32.
