Varsity Fall to Emmetsburg 45-54 in Over Time (12/20)

The Southeast Valley Varsity Boys' basketball team traveled up to Emmetsburg on Monday, December 20th, to challenge the E-Hawks on the hardwood. Now that some football injuries have seemed to heal up more as more time goes by, it's now the cold season and flu bugs have now made their impact at the Varsity level, as the SV Jaguars had to make the Monday night road trip without their second-leading scorer in Aaron Graves. In a Twin Lakes Conference match-up, Southeast Valley fell by the score of 45-54. The game was decided in overtime after a 43-43 tie at the end of regulation.

The Jaguars led all the first half, leading 11-9 at the conclusion of the opening quarter, and held a slight three-point advantage at the intermission break. Turnovers were detrimental throughout the contest for the Jaguars, as they committed 13 turnovers in the 1st half, and 25 total turnovers in the game. In the second half, the Jags were outscored 33-21, as the E-Hawks were able to take advantage of the Jaguar mistakes down the stretch.

Kolson Kruse led the Jaguars in scoring with 14 points on a rough night shooting the ball. Kruse led the team in rebounding with 8 caroms off the glass, while also earning 3 steals and 1 blocked shot in the game. Junior Eli Johnson added 10 points on 4-7 shooting from the field, while also adding 6 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Justin Loseke chipped in with 9 points on 4-6 shooting in the paint. Loseke also collected 4 offensive rebounds in the contest. Senior Tre Fisher scored 7 points, 4 steals, and 3 rebounds in the game. Rounding out the Jaguar scoring was Drew Corell with 5 points and 5 steals. Nate Scott recorded two defensive rebounds and one blocked shot as he stepped in to fill the absence of fellow big-man Aaron Graves. Junior Carl Berglund tallied one steal in the game.

End of Quarter Scores: SV led 11-9, 24-21, 36-35, Tied 43-43. OT Emmetsburg 54, SV 45. The Varsity record is now 4-4 through the first 8 games of the season.
