Coach Sorenson Named Coach of the Year by the IATC

Southeast Valley Junior High Coach Amber Sorenson has recently been named the junior high coach of the year for the state of Iowa by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches (IATC). Coach Sorenson was nominated by a peer and then voted on by the IATC members at the annual spring meeting held on June 8th to receive this honor.

Coach Sorenson has been a junior high boys’ track coach at Southeast Valley for the past ten years. During those ten years, the junior high track program has been strong in both numbers and quality. Besides averaging 30 to 40 boys on the team each year, they have won the Twin Lakes Conference team title the past five straight years while Coach Sorenson has been working with the boys.

The high school boys’ track & field coaches have always appreciated how Coach Sorenson does an amazing job with the jr. high program. As a coaching staff, we appreciate the time she puts into the program learning new things and teaching the boys the fundamental skills they will need as they move up to the high school program, while keeping it fun for the kids.

Coach Sorenson will be recognized for her achievement at the IATC’s annual Hall of Fame banquet this coming December at the conclusion of the IATC’s annual track & field/cross-country clinic.
