Cross Country at Webster City Invite

The Southeast Valley cross country teams traveled to Webster City this past Tuesday, September 1st in very hot and humid conditions for their latest cross country meet. Due to the conditions, the JV races were cancelled allowing for later start times for the varsity races. With no JV races, the varsity races were adjusted and allowed three extra runners in addition to the normal 7 varsity runners.

Despite the uncomfortable conditions, the Jaguar runners competed well with most runners still being close to their season best times the previous from last Thursday in Gowrie. Emily Wilson led the girls with a 30th place finish in a time of 26:27. Charlie Dorsey was the next Jaguar to cross the finish line claiming 38th place with a time of 28:00. Ruby Stimpson and Meia Hefley also finished the race for the Jaguars. They ran 28:43 (42nd) and 30:11 (47th) overall. With only 4 runners, the girls did not have the required five runners to have a team score.

In the boys’ race, the Jaguars placed five in the top 25 to claim 3rd place overall as a team. The Jaguars scored 87 points. Roland Story won the meet on the tie breaker against Manson NW as both teams scored 77 points to claim 1st and 2nd in the team standings.

Crossing the finish line in 19:14 was senior Owen Nuss who was the 11th runner to finish the race. Freshman Griffin Vote was a few places behind in 15th place and a time of 19:41. Landon Vote and Kasen Loeffler took 20th and 21st places respectively, both completing the 5k course in just under 20 minutes. Landon’s 19:55 just edges Kasen’ 19:58. August Akins was the Jaguars fifth and final scorer, running a 20:22 for 24th place.

Freshman Grant Peterson was the lone Southeast Valley who ran a personal best on Tuesday. His time of 20:36 earned him 29th place. Jackson Bintz edged teammate Henry Sandstrom at the finish line for the last displacement runner. Jackson and Henry ran 21:06 (34th) and 21:07 (35th) respectively. Eli Rude (77th) and Carter Lloyd (79th) finished the course in 26:31 and 26:53 as the Jaguar’s 9th and 10th runners of the night.

The Jaguars will be back in action this Thursday, September 10th at the Greene County Invite at Spring Lake Park and then head to Panorama on Thursday, September 17th.
