SV Cross Country at Lake City

On Tuesday, October 7th, the Southeast Valley cross country teams took advantage of the fall weather as they traveled to the Brian Knapp Invitational in Lake City. Success found the Jaguars in a multitude of ways, including several medalists, several PRs and some of the top team finishes of the year.

The Jaguar boys’ were able to finish 3rd place overall with a team score of 106 points that helped them to their highest finish of the year; beating several teams that they had finished behind all year. The only two teams to beat them, were a pair of conference foes that are ranked in class 1A. #13 Sioux Central won the meet with 77 points, followed by #6 ranked East Sac County.

On the girls’ side, Southeast Valley finished 7th overall with 164 points. Once again, a pair of class 1A ranked teams took the top two spots on the girls’ side with #8 Newell Fonda winning the meet with 31 points and #4 Sioux Central scoring 48 points.

The boys’ high place finish as a team was a combination of three top 20 medalists and 2 more big season PRs by a couple of underclassmen. Senior Lincoln Akins and junior Owen Nuss continued to pace the Jaguars finishing 11th and 18th overall running 18:24 and 19:10 respectively. Freshmen August Akins earned his second varsity medal of the season finishing 20th in a time of 19:14.

Freshman Kasen Loeffler and Sophomore Carver Peterson both set career PRs on the hill course running 19:35 (28th) and 19:36 (29th) respectively. Seniors Drew Dorsey (38th, 20:27) and Ethan Tucker (39th, 20:31) found top 40 finishes as the displacement runners for the Jaguars.

In girls’ race, freshman Charlie Dorsey took almost two minutes off her previous career best, running 24:15 and finishing 27th overall. Senior Katie Field was right behind her finishing 31st in a time of 24:43. Ruby Stimpson (33rd, 25:13) and Brooke Peterson (45th, 27:07) either tied or broke their season PR on Tuesday and Meia Hefley was 47th in 28:27.

While JV boys team scores were not kept, JV individual standing were pulled out of the overall results. The Jaguars had another three boys medal in the JV division. They were Jackson Bintz (3rd, 20:32), Logan Bintz (11th, 21:45) and Carter Ganoe (14th, 21:59). Jackson and Carter both set career PRs in the process as well as did Jacob Wicklein who finished 43rd in a time of 25:47. Oliver Riehl set a course PR of 23:11 and crossed the finish line at the same time as teammate Blaise Echevarria also ran 23:11 as they finished 29th and 30th. Senior Evan Kuhn found a course PR on Tuesday, running the 5k in 26:15 for 44th place.
