JH Football at South Central Calhoun

On Tuesday, September 30th, the Jr High Football Jags tangled with the Titans of South Central Calhoun in their first road test of the season at Rockwell City. The 7th grade opened the evening with a hard fought 14-0 victory. The Jags offense was a bit out of sync during the course of the game but the defense was stout pitching their third straight goose egg of the season.

In the first quarter, Nicco Jondle recovered a South Central fumble that allowed the Jag offense to methodically drive down the field, capped with TB Hudson Ulicki scoring with a five yard TD run; the two point conversion was stopped short. The second quarter resulted in no scoring for each team ending the half with the Jags up 6-0.

The Jags received the ball to start the third period. Tight end Nicco Jondle hauled in a nice 25 yard one handed catch to keep the drive alive. Ulicki again reached the end zone with a 12 yard TD run; Ulicki punched in the two point conversion making the score 14-0. The Jags coughed the ball up twice in the fourth quarter negating two promising drives and Nicco Jondle ended any threat of a score by recovering a SCC fumble for the second time in the game. Final Score 14-0. The 7th grade defense is lead by down lineman Rocco Jondle, Brady Anderson, Canton Richardson, and Traysen Gutschall; linebackers Hudson Ulicki, Cooper Hefley, Owen Mikesell, Jackson Halsrud, and Nicco Jondle. Corners and Safeties Braxten Pierce, Cayden Burkholder, Gabe Steck, Cooper Lane, Tripp Roper, and Cam Johnson.

In the second game of the evening, the 8th grade also held their opponents to zero points resulting in their third straight shut out of the season. In the first quarter the Jag defense held the Titan offense, which allowed running back Wyatt Muench to start his dominance of the game. Muench ripped a 25 yard TD run for the first score of the game; Muench’s running mate Brady Hanson scored the two point conversion. The Jag offense again scored on a big play with Muench taking a flair pass from QB Boe Davis down the right sideline for a 35 yard TD pass; Hanson again scoring the 2 point conversion making the score 16-0. The Jags continued to play good defense in the second quarter allowing Muench to score two three yard TD runs and Hanson picking up the two point conversion making the score 30-0 at half.

The Jag offense continued to roll in the 3rd quarter as Muench again rumbled into the end zone on a 10 yard run; capable back up wide receiver/running back Landyn Fisher scored the 2 point conversion. Speedy Fisher took the hand-off on an off tackle play and outran the defense for a 40 yard TD run; Fisher scoring the 2 pt conversion. In the fourth quarter Fisher again took an off tackle play and outran the defense for another 40 yard TD run; QB Bennet Nolte scored the two point conversion making the final score 52-0.

The Jags defense is led by down lineman Jax Spangler, Jaxon VanCannon, and Reece Carlson; linebackers Wyatt Muench, Boe Davis, Jax Hindt, and Landyn Fisher, and corners and safeties Nicholas Vogel, Bentley Jondle, Tristan Hanson, and Bennet Nolte.
