SVSB vs. SCC 5/23/2024
The Jaguars welcomed softball fans in Harcourt, Thursday night for their home opener against the visiting Titans from South Central Calhoun. The Jags, hot off a win over the Humboldt Wildcats, continued their winning streak defeating SCC by a score of 15-0 after three innings of play.
The Jaguar offense showed discipline at the plate all night with all nine Jags in the line up reaching base and crossing home plate at least once. From the start, the Jaguar offense jumped on top, scoring two in their half of the first. After senior Ellie Nolte reached safely on a walk and stole second, she would be brought in as the result of a double roped off the bat of junior infielder Chloe Lambert. Lambert would then score on a pair of passed balls on the Titan catcher. In the second inning, Southeast Valley took control and never looked back, plating 13 runs in their half of the second inning and each of the nine seeing two at bats. Ellie Nolte, Kenna Scott, Chloe Lambert, Alex Kitchen, Leilah Olson, and Brooke Peterson each scored two runs a piece while Jordyn Rowley, Lauren Eslick, and Camryn Lane plated one run a piece. After two complete innings the Jaguars would lead 15-0 with a combined 14 stolen bases on the night.
In the circle, sophomore Rian Schlief made her second appearance of the season. Schlief faced nine batters and with the help of the defense behind her, Southeast Valley successfully retired all nine. Schlief struck out four and walked none, allowing just one hit, and no runs.
With the win, the Jags hold a 2-0 record to start the season and look to continue on that streak! Southeast Valley will face off against West Central Valley for another night of softball in Harcourt on Friday night (May 24th) before traveling to Ogden Saturday morning.
