Jaguars Rally to Runner-Up Finish at East Sac County Coed Relays

On Monday, May 11th the Southeast Valley girls track team traveled to Sac City for the East Sac County Coed Relays and delivered an exciting performance, battling back from an early deficit to finish as team runner-up in dramatic fashion.

It was a warm evening with a little wind, but overall solid track conditions. The Jaguars got off to a slow start and after the first six events found themselves sitting in last place in the team standings. As the meet progressed, however, Southeast Valley steadily climbed back into contention.

The team championship came down to the final event of the night, the 4x400-meter relay. Southeast Valley entered the race trailing by just one point. The Jaguars ran a strong race, but Manson Northwest Webster’s powerful relay squad secured the win and clinched the team title with 123 points, while Southeast Valley finished just behind with 120 points.

The Jaguars claimed several first-place finishes on the night. The 4x800-meter relay team of Charlotte Blair, Tenley Kastendieck, Emily Wilson, and Goldie Davis won in 11:08.12. The 4x200-meter relay team of Sage Lane, Mae Searcy, Madelyn Farley, and Avrie Hanson posted their fastest time of the season at 1:50.13, moving into Southeast Valley’s all-time top 10. Emily Wilson captured the open 800-meter title in 2:40.55, also placing her in the school’s top 10 all-time list. The 4x100-meter relay team of Avrie Hanson, Mae Searcy, Madelyn Farley, and Sage Lane also took first with a time of 51.95.

Second-place finishes included the shuttle hurdle relay team of Mae Searcy, Madelynn Miller, Sage Lane, and Madelyn Farley in 1:13.07. Avrie Hanson was runner-up in both the 100-meter dash (13.17) and 200-meter dash (27.47). Madelyn Farley placed second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.29, moving into Southeast Valley’s top 10 in school history. Goldie Davis was second in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:30.93, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Charlotte Blair, Tenley Kastendieck, Emily Wilson, and Goldie Davis finished second in 4:44.00.

Third-place finishes went to Madelynn Miller in the long jump with a leap of 14’ 4”, Tenley Kastendieck in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:47.48, placing her in the school’s top 10, and Sage Lane in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:13.50.

Other strong performances included Camryn Lane in the 400-meter dash 1:08.10 and Mae Searcy in the 100-meter hurdles 18.55, both earning fourth-place finishes. Hanna Wicklien placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 84-6, while Elcie Johnson was fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.82.

Katie Field finished sixth in the 3000-meter run in 13:57.63, and Charlie Dorsey ran a personal-best 6:08.40 in the 1500-meter run to finish sixth and move into Southeast Valley’s all-time top 10.

It was an exciting meet and a great example of the determination this Southeast Valley squad brings to every competition. The Jaguars showed tremendous fight to climb back into contention and nearly capture the team championship, proving once again the heart and grit this team carries every time they step on the track.
