Southeast Valley Girls Track Competes at Indoor Meets, Prepares for Outdoor Season

The Southeast Valley girls track and field team has been busy over the past few weeks, competing in a pair of indoor meets as they prepare for the upcoming outdoor season.

The Jaguars first traveled to Ames on Friday, March 13th to compete in the Iowa Track Coaches Association Indoor State Championships in the 2A division. The meet featured a highly selective field, with entries based on performances from the previous season.

Despite the competitive nature of the event, Southeast Valley had strong representation across multiple events. Qualifiers included Mae Searcy and Madelyn Farley in the 60-meter hurdles, Avrie Hanson in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash, and Charlotte Blair in the 800-meter run. The Jaguars also qualified three relay teams: the shuttle hurdle relay of Mae Searcy, Charlotte Blair, Sage Lane, and Madelyn Farley; the 4x100-meter relay consisting of Avrie Hanson, Mae Searcy, Madelyn Farley, and Sage Lane; and another relay team made up of Charlotte Blair, Addi Lundquist, Emily Wilson, and Sage Lane.

The team then wrapped up its indoor season at Humboldt on Thursday, March 19th, where several strong performances highlighted the meet. The 4x200-meter relay team of Avrie Hanson, Mae Searcy, Devynn Wilson, and Sage Lane captured a first-place finish with a time of 1:59.30.

Additional notable results included a fourth-place finish from the shuttle hurdle relay team of Mae Searcy, Madelynn Miller, Sage Lane, and Madelyn Farley (45.36), and a fifth-place finish from the 4x800-meter relay team of Charlotte Dorsey, Tenley Kastendieck, Emily Wilson, and Goldie Davis (11:58.38). Mae Searcy also placed eighth in the open 60-meter hurdles with a time of 11.37.

The Jaguars return a strong group of letter winners this season, including Madelyn Farley, Katie Field, Avrie Hanson, Camryn Lane, Sage Lane, Addy Lundquist, Leah Mills, Mae Searcy, Ruby Stimpson, Emily Wilson, and Devynn Wilson. They are joined by a talented group of newcomers, including freshmen Charlotte Blair, Goldie Davis, Charlie Dorsey, Elcie Johnson, Tenley Kastendieck, Madelynn Miller, Macy Mundt, and Hanna Wicklein, along with team manager Dixie Dahlhauser. The new additions have already demonstrated hard work and dedication early in the season.

Southeast Valley will now turn its focus to the outdoor season, which is set to begin at South Central Calhoun on Monday, March 30th, followed by a meet at Roland-Story on April 2nd.
