SV Girls' T & F Compete at Jim Yunek Relays
The Southeast Valley Girls Track Team traveled to Lake City on Thursday, May 7, to compete in the SCC Jim Yunek Co-Ed Relays. After several weeks of cold and windy conditions, the athletes were finally greeted with a picture-perfect evening for track and field, and the Jaguars certainly took advantage of it, making Southeast Valley proud with an outstanding performance.
The girls recorded several personal-best performances throughout the night, added multiple marks to the Southeast Valley Top 10 lists, and even broke two school records.
Goldie Davis broke the Southeast Valley school record in the 1500-meter run with an impressive time of 5:24.80, surpassing the previous record of 5:26.02 set by Alli True in 2016. Goldie’s performance earned her a 4th-place finish in a highly competitive field.
Another school record came in the 4x100-meter relay, where Avrie Hanson, Mae Searcy, Madelyn Farley, and Sage Lane raced to a first-place finish in 51.78 seconds. Their time broke the previous school record of 52.10 set in 2018 by Katara Jondle, Tessa Berg, Karissa Hiesterman, and Kanyon Pepples.
The Jaguars also had several runner-up finishes on the night. The 4x800-meter relay team of Charlotte Blair, Tenley Kastendieck, Emily Wilson, and Goldie Davis ran 11:05.85 to place second. The 4x200-meter relay team of Sage Lane, Mae Searcy, Madelyn Farley, and Avrie Hanson also finished second with a personal-best time of 1:50.84, closing in on the school record by just over a second.
Emily Wilson captured second place in the open 800-meter run with a time of 2:43.53, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Charlotte Blair, Tenley Kastendieck, Emily Wilson, and Goldie Davis added another second-place finish in 4:47.89.
Southeast Valley also collected several third-place finishes. Macy Mundt earned third in the shot put with a throw of 32’ 10.5”, moving her into 4th place all-time in Southeast Valley history. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Mae Searcy, Madelynn Miller, Sage Lane, and Madelyn Farley finished third with a time of 1:12.12.
Avrie Hanson had a strong night in the sprints, placing third in the 100-meter dash in 13.51 and third again in the 200-meter dash in 27.69. Sage Lane added another third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:11.49, moving her to 4th all-time in Southeast Valley history.
Fourth-place finishes went to Mae Searcy in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.68 and Tenley Kastendieck in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:49.65.
Fifth-place finishes included Hanna Wicklien in the discus with a throw of 89’ 7”, Madelynn Miller in the long jump with a leap of 15’ 1”, Charlie Dorsey in the 3000-meter run with a time of 13:56.87, and Camryn Lane in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:09.21.
Sixth-place finishes went to Katie Field in the 3000-meter run with a time of 14:28.03, Ruby Stimpson in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:14.19, Madelyn Farley in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.81, and Charlotte Blair in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:20.93.
The Jaguars gave an outstanding effort from start to finish and earned the team runner-up out of 11 competing schools. IKM-Manning won the meet with 132 points, while Southeast Valley finished second with 96 points. Other schools competing included East Sac County, Newell-Fonda, Pocahontas Area, Manson Northwest Webster, South Central Calhoun, Audubon, Ar-We-Va, Glidden-Ralston, and Paton-Churdan.
The Southeast Valley girls will next compete Monday at Sac City and then at the District Track Meet on Thursday, May 14, at Sioux Central.
