JVR Baseball vs Boone
The Jaguars JVR baseball team ran into a bit of a buzzsaw when the Boone Torredors came to Dayton on Friday. The visitors notched a 10-2 victory in the 7 inning game.
“That team was better than some varsity teams we faced this year,” said Coach Fritz. “The nice thing is, the guys didn’t get down, adapted, and got us some base runners, after 7 of our first 9 batters struck out.”
The Boone pitcher struck out the first 5 he faced, but Carter Lloyd finally figured him out, with a strong hit to left field that was caught for the last out of the 2nd. Then when the 3rd rolled around, Tucker Ollinger lead off with a base hit, stole 2nd, and came around to score on a Josiah Hefley base hit.
The Jags punched another across in the 5th, when Caden Cramer walked, stole 2nd, and advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch. Hefley then walked. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Hefley took a slow steal to 2nd, which caused the Boone pitcher to balk, which scored Cramer.
Riley Fawcett had the team’s best hit of the game, a drive to the fence, that was unfortunately caught by a speedy Torredor.
Ollinger started on the mound for the Jags, going 3 innings and giving up 6 runs. Ethan Martin came in relief in the 4th, and had a nice 1-2-3 inning, but did surrender 3 runs in the 5th. Hefley pitched the last 2 innings for the Jags, in his first pitching appearance of the season, after having suffered an off field injury to his hand earlier in the year. He gave up 1 run and struck out two.
With the loss, the Jaguars JVR baseball team fell to 6-3 on the year.
