South Hamilton pulls away in second half to defeat Southeast Valley

The Southeast Valley Jaguars were unable to keep pace in the second half as they fell to the South Hamilton Hawks, 67–35, in girls basketball action on Monday, January 12th.

The Jaguars came out with energy early and kept the opening quarter competitive. Southeast Valley scored 19 points in the first period, led by aggressive drives and perimeter shooting, but South Hamilton answered with balanced offense. Jaguars held a 19 - 14 lead after one quarter of basketball.

Both teams settled into a defensive rhythm in the second quarter. Southeast Valley continued to battle on the boards and moved the ball effectively, trimming the deficit and keeping the game within reach. However, South Hamilton’s consistency on both ends allowed the Hawks to maintain control heading into halftime with a 28–24 advantage.

Momentum shifted in the third quarter as South Hamilton increased defensive pressure and turned key stops into transition scoring. The Hawks outscored Southeast Valley 17–5 in the period, opening up a double-digit lead and taking a 45–29 advantage into the final quarter.

South Hamilton continued to build on that momentum in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Jaguars 20–6 to pull away for the 67–35 victory.

Individually, Southeast Valley was led by Sage Lane, who turned in a strong all-around performance with 16 points, eight rebounds, and three three-pointers. Lane provided a consistent offensive spark throughout the night and accounted for nearly half of the Jaguars’ scoring.

Camryn Lane added 10 points, attacking the basket and providing scoring in key moments during the first half. Mekenah Osbourne controlled the paint for Southeast Valley, finishing with seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds, helping limit second-chance opportunities.

Additional contributions came from Delaney Sittig, who tallied two points and five rebounds, and Karley Rae Smith, who also finished with two points and five rebounds, as both players provided strong effort on the glass.

From the free-throw line, Southeast Valley converted 9 of 14 attempts for 64 percent, showing efficiency in limited opportunities at the stripe.

Despite the setback, the Jaguars displayed strong effort early and competed on the boards throughout the contest. Southeast Valley will look to build on its rebounding performance and first-half execution as the team prepares for upcoming conference play.

Webster City defeats Southeast Valley

The Southeast Valley Jaguars were unable to overcome a strong second-half surge from the Webster City Lynx, falling 57–29 in a high school varsity girls basketball contest on Tuesday, January 13th.

Webster City set the tone early, jumping out to a 15–6 lead after the opening quarter. Southeast Valley responded with improved ball movement and defensive intensity in the second period, holding the Lynx to 16 points while matching them offensively. Despite the stronger quarter from the Jaguars, Webster City carried a 31–20 advantage into halftime.

The Lynx took control coming out of the break, using consistent pressure defense and transition scoring to extend the lead in the third quarter. Webster City outscored Southeast Valley 11–0 in the period, building a 42–20 advantage entering the final eight minutes.

Southeast Valley showed continued effort in the fourth quarter, scoring nine points behind a balanced offense, but Webster City maintained its momentum and closed the game with a 15-point final period to secure the 57–29 victory.

Individually, the Jaguars were led by Sage Lane, hit 3 three pointers in the first half and finished with 11 points and six rebounds, providing energy on both ends of the floor. Addison Lundquist followed with nine points hitting 3 three pointers, while Karley Rae Smith contributed seven points, giving Southeast Valley multiple scoring options.

Additional contributions came from Mekenah Osbourne and Charlotte Blair, who each added one point as the Jaguars continued to work for scoring opportunities against the Lynx defense.

Despite the final score, Southeast Valley showed resilience after a slow start and continued to compete throughout the contest. The Jaguars will look to build on their second-quarter execution and rebounding efforts as they continue through the varsity schedule.

Sioux Central defeats Southeast Valley in varsity matchup

The Southeast Valley Jaguars faced a tough challenge on the road Friday, January 16th, falling 71–14 to the Sioux Central Rebels in a high school varsity girls basketball contest.

Sioux Central set the tempo early, using aggressive defense and fast-break scoring to jump out to a 23–0 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Rebels continued to control the pace in the second period, extending their advantage to 42–5 at halftime.

Southeast Valley showed improvement coming out of the locker room. The Jaguars scored six points in the period while limiting Sioux Central to 12, but the Rebels maintained control with a 54–11 lead heading into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter for the Jaguars added three more points to close the game. Sioux Central matched the Jaguars’ energy down the stretch and finished the night with a 71–14 victory.

Individually, Sage Lane led Southeast Valley with seven points, seven rebounds, and one steal, providing consistent effort on both ends of the floor. Mekenah Osbourne contributed three points and three rebounds, while Delaney Sittig added two points, two rebounds, and two steals.

Addison Lundquist rounded out the scoring for the Jaguars with two points and three rebounds.

Despite the final score, Southeast Valley continued to compete throughout the contest and gained valuable varsity experience against a strong Sioux Central squad. The Jaguars will look to build on their defensive effort and rebounding as they prepare for their next game.
