Wyatt Blair punched his ticket to the 2026 State Wrestling Tournament by finishing as a runner up in the Class 2A wrestling tournament hosted by Webster City. Blair will be wrestling in the 120 lb bracket Thursday, February 19th at 2:30 PM at the renamed Casey's Center in Des Moines, formerly known as the Well. #17 seed Blair opens with #16 seed Stratton Luke from Union, Laporte City in first round action.

Blair opened the tournament with a 13-5 win over his Garner Hayfield-Ventura opponent in the semi’s setting up his title bout against State qualifier Paxton Redenius of Clarion-Goldfield. In a back and forth match, Redenius came out on top 9-8 in a tough loss for Blair. In District wrestling, a true second place finish came into play, so Blair had to regroup his emotions and wrestle Denver’s Tyler Nuss for the State wrestling ticket. Blair came out on top with a 7-3 decision.

113 lbs Josiah Hefley, 132 lbs Keelan Wellman, and 150 lbs Colton Haug all won first round matches but dropped their semi final matches putting them in the conso-semis with a chance to wrestle back for true 2nd place. 106 lbs Kasen Loeffler, 144 lbs. Colin Johnson, 165 lbs Drake Nitch, 175 lbs Brock Norine, and 285 lbs Korbin Spangler also were in the conso’s for a chance for wrestlebacks. 215 Kyle Eastman also competed in the conso’s for the Jags. The wheels fell off the bus as our guys just couldn’t finish a match, which was disheartening for our guys. Some of our guys were leading in their matches but made some positioning mistakes and it cost them big time. The pain the young Jags felt during the tournament hopefully will give them motivation to continue to improve as athletes and wrestlers. The Jags finished the regular season with a 15-13 dual meet record.
