HS Wrestling Updates
On Thursday, December 18th, the Jag wrestling team traveled southward to Panorama for the second time this season to tangle with the Panthers, the Chargers of AC-GC, and the Bulldogs of Ogden. The Jags picked up two solid dual wins against the Bulldogs and reversed an early season loss to the Panthers in the final contest of the night. The Jags came out flat against the Chargers, getting out physicaled on the mat dropping the dual 54-30. The second dual against the Bulldogs turned into an exciting match going down to the final match where sophomore Heavyweight picked up the win giving the Jags a 36-34 win. 157 pounder Colton Haug came from behind in his match with a huge pin to keep the Jags in the match. In the final dual freshman 120 Josiah Hefley wrestled a tough match against a senior from Panora, getting the team rolling for a 45-30 win. Karson Loeffler, Josiah Hefley, and Wyatt Blair finished 3-0 for the night, Keelan Wellman, Colton Haug, Kyle Eastman, and Korbin Spangler picked up two wins and Caden Milham, Brock Norine, and Evan Kuhn notched a win.
Eight wrestlers participated in the Roland Story JV tournament on Friday, December 19th to gain some valuable mat experience. 106 Kaesen Loeffler, 120 Josiah Hefley, 165 Drake Nitch, and 175 Brock Norine came home with 1st place medals wrestling well in the tournament. 157 Blaise Echeverria placed third and 126 Evan Kuhn, 144 Chris Andrews, and 275 Shelton Devries took fourth.
On Saturday, December 20th, seven wrestlers participated in the ultra tough Jim Kinyon Invite at Story City. The tournament field expanded to twenty two teams that featured several state qualifiers and placewinners in each of the fourteen brackets. Two sophomores, 126 Wyatt Blair and 132 Keelan Wellman placed in the top seven. Blair placed 7th and Wellman placed 6th. 138 Caden Milham, 144 Colin Johnson, 157 Colton Haug, 215 Kyle Eastman, and 275 Korbin Spangler did not place.
Our guys struggled underneath the whole day. After some time off, the guys will get back in the room, get things figured out and get ready for the second half of the season.
