JH Girls Basketball Finish Season vs SCC

On Thursday, January 15th, the Southeast Valley junior high girls basketball teams hosted the Titans from SCC. The 7th graders got the night started by playing lock down defense and shut down the Titans for a 16-10 win. The Jags were led in scoring by Taylor Carlson’s 12 points. Elyse Skoglund and Lexi Waugh had 4 points for the Jags win. In the 8th grade game, the Jags held a 2 point halftime lead, but could not complete the finish as the Titans went on 4-0 run in the 4th quarter to beat the Jags 25-18. The Jags were led in scoring by Tana Harrison’s 11 points. Kelsey Hayes contributed 3 points, while Kensley Cox added 2 points. Aubree Richardson and Kaylee Hicks each chipped in with 1 point for the Jags.

Coach McCloud is quoted as saying, “I know coach Kelley and I are really proud of the girls this year. Last night was a good indication of how both groups have really improved as the year has progressed. The 7th graders finish with a 6-6 record. They went on a 3 game winning streak. We look forward to what next year could look like for this group. The 8th graders finish the season with a record of 4-8. I know the record does not indicate how much these girls have improved over the last season. An example of this was in last night’s game, we played a box in 1 on SCC’s best player, Aubree Richardson and Grace Kauffman were the primary ones doing this, and we shut her down to only 7 points. The 8th graders also did an amazing job of sharing the ball this year. They have a great future ahead of them at the high school level. I would like to thank the players, the parents and all who supported us this season. Thank you all for the season.” Go Jags!!
