Halsrud Goes Yard, Hindt Tosses Perfect Game
The Southeast Valley junior high baseball teams enjoyed an exciting day on the diamond Friday, June 12, earning a pair of 7-0 victories over the hometown Cougars of Manson Northwest Webster.
Behind an excellent performance on the mound from Cam Johnson, the Jaguar offense came alive in the top of the third inning. Leading 3-0 with two outs, the Jags put together an impressive string of hits that may not soon be forgotten.
Tripp Roper and Cam Johnson delivered back-to-back triples on shots driven into the gaps in center field. Both players wasted no time circling the bases and recording three-base hits. If back-to-back triples weren't exciting enough, Jaxson Halsrud stepped into the batter's box and launched a towering home run over the "monster" left-field fence, briefly interrupting the softball game being played nearby. Cooper Lane kept the momentum going, lining a double to right field to cap off the offensive outburst.
In the second game of the day, Jax Hindt found his groove on the bump and turned in a perfect game as the Jaguars secured their second 7-0 victory. The achievement was celebrated by teammates and coaches alike. Fellow pitchers Bennett Nolte and Boe Davis did their best to avoid any baseball superstition as the final outs were recorded, making sure not to jinx Hindt's bid for perfection. Offensively, several Jaguars put together quality at-bats throughout the game, even when they didn't reach base.
The seventh- and eighth-grade teams will host Ogden on Monday, June 15, before hitting the road Wednesday and Thursday to take on the Indians of Pocahontas Area and the Mustangs of Newell-Fonda to close out the week.
