Jag Baseball at West Bend-Mallard
6/8 @ West Bend. 5-1 W (3-5) (2-0)
The night belonged to Evan Bintz as the Junior took the mound and dominated the game throwing a one hit gem. Evan struck out seven batters in his seven innings. Walking only three batters was the difference in the game. Karson Roper set the school record for least amount of pitches thrown in an inning with one as Evan reached a pitch count of 90. Roper with a guy on first, threw a pitch with the runner stealing Mason Bahr miscalculated the throw which sent it to Logan Jaeschke in center. With the runner going to third Jaeschke gunned him out to give the Jags three outs and ending the game. A great performance from Evan Bintz on a young upcoming wolverine team. Evan was on point all night and even though he couldn't finish the game. It was a heck of an effort and just what the Jags needed to get back in the win column.
Offensively, the Jags were led by their leadoff hitter Casey Hanson who reached base on every at bat of the day. He would record two singles and a double. Not to be outdone, Logan Jaeschke had himself a day going 3-4 with a double scoring three runners in the contest. Mason Bahr and Karson Roper would add singles. Sophomores Dawson Tuel and Conner Rentz would both single, Rentz would add another to give him two on the day. A few runners left on base could have helped to extend the lead but just missed on a few opportunities. Five was enough in the end though as the Jags move to 2-0 in conference.
JV ACTION: 3-3 T
A fast moving jv game saw Caden Cramer throw another gem. The sophomore continued his good pitching, holding West Bend to one run in his four innings of work. Caden would strike out eight batters. Ethan Martin would relieve Cramer in the fourth. Some defensive miscues allowed West Bend to score in the fifth. It was a dominating game by the Jags pitching staff however the Wolverines somehow snuck in three runs.
The bats were strangely quiet on the night. Spencer Peterson, Colby Peterson and Tucker Ollinger added hits for the Jags. Spencer scored twice and Tucker once on a passed ball. Tough last inning but the Jags will learn from it and be ready for the next contest.
