SV Baseball VS St Edmond

6/2 St. Edmonds 9-12 L (1-3)

First game of the week saw the Gaels of Saint Edmonds traveling to take on the Jaguars. The Gaels would strike first with five runs in the first inning. Starter senior Ryan Stewart would gather himself together though and through to his pitch limit before giving the ball to Landon Vote in the fifth inning. Landon would then give the ball to Evan Bintz late in the game to close it out the rest of the way. Down five in the first inning the Jags showed a lot of resilience, coming back to score one then two runs in the first and second inning. It was the fourth inning where the Jags made their comeback and actually take the lead as the Jags scored six runs. The Gaels though would answer again with two runs to tie it up going into the seventh inning, it was anyone’s game. Unfortunately, St. Eds would score three runs in the seventh and the Jags couldn’t match that to give the Gaels the win. The effort to come back was good to see in the early part of the season, unfortunately it was the Gaels taking home the win. Offensively the Jags did a decent job with the middle of the lineup leading the charge. Kolton Ollinger was 3 for 4 with three singles and a walk. Logan Jaeschke was 2 for 4, with a double and RBI, Karson Roper was 2 for 3 with two RBI as well. Colin Johnson and Dawson Tuel both added a hit. Dawson would drive in two runs with his double down the line and Colin would add one RBI on the day. Tough game with a sour ending but the Jags are starting to build momentum as the second week of the season comes around.

JV ACTION: 8-2 W (2-0)

JV squad started things on a positive note gaining their second win of the season. Landon Vote made the most of the his JV at bats, going 2 for 3 scoring twice. Spencer Peterson didn’t record a hit but got on base twice and scored twice. Caden Cramer who has been having team oriented at bats did his job again walking and scoring a runner with a groundball to secondbase. Ayden Bintz would do the same with a chopper to pitcher which scored and run. Ayden would also get a hit and scored a runner on that hit. The JV team has been getting quality at bats, even if they get out they do a job to move teammates. Ethan Martin continued his game hit streak while also touching home himself in the second inning. August Akins had himself a game getting two hits on his two plate appearances. A double and a single which scored three baserunners, not a bad day at the plate at all! Colton Bachel rounded out the hits on the day with a single, scoring Akins on the hit. A solid start for the JV squad who looks to continue to build momentum. On the mound Caden Cramer went most of the four innings getting extended work on the mound. Cramer kept the Gaels from scoring while relying on his defense to make plays. A solid pitching performance from the Sophomore.
