JVR Baseball Walk Off Winner vs Humboldt

The Jaguars JVR baseball team had an exciting 8-7 walk off win against Humboldt in a 7 inning thriller on Friday afternoon in Dayton. The Jaguars dug out of a 6-0 hole to take the comeback win.

The drama peaked in the 7th inning, as the two teams were tied at 6. The Wildcats were able to scratch across a run in the top half of the inning to take the lead, 7-6. But the Jaguars had no quit.

In the bottom of the 7th, lead off batter Colton Bachel was able to coax a walk, and advanced to 2nd base on a wild pitch. August Akins knocked a single to left field, advancing Bachel to 3rd. Akins was next able to advance to 2nd on defensive indifference. So with none out, and the tying run on 3rd, and the winning run on 2nd, Ethan Martin stepped into the batters box. On a 3-0 count, he poked a base hit to left field, easily scoring Bachel, and Akins ran hard from 2nd, and just beat the relay throw home to win the game for the Jaguars.

Akins picked up the win in relief, going 4 innings, allowing 1 run and striking out 4. Tucker Ollinger started for the Jaguars, and struggled a bit on the mound, giving up 6 runs in 3 innings of work, though he did set down the Wildcats 1-2-3 in the 2nd inning.

Akins did a great job in the 3 hole batting for the Jaguars, scoring 3 runs, and reached base on all 4 plate appearances, with 2 hits, and reaching on 2 errors. Martin also reached base 4 times, once on an error, and he had 3 base hits, including the game winner. Caden Cramer also had 2 base hits on the day.

“These guys have no quit in them,” said Coach Fritz. “We were down 6-0, but we scored 3 in the 3rd, 1 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, and then those final 2 in the 7th. The guys just kept clawing. Easily the most fun win of our 5 this year.”

The Jaguars JVR team raised their record to 5-2 on the year. This week they have two home contests. First is a double dip with Roland-Story on Tuesday at 1, and against Boone on Friday at 1:30.
