JVR Jags Down Warriors

The Jaguars JVR baseball team finished 2-0 for the week and climbed to 4-0 at home with a 4-2 win over the Alta-Aurelia Warriors Friday night in Dayton. The game was the first of a trifecta sweep against the Warriors.

August Akins stymied A-A, going the distance in the 5 inning game. He faced just 4 batters over the minimum. He also started an inning ending 1-6-3 double play in the first inning. Lefthander Akins was also crafty from the pitching mound, picking off 3 Warrior base runners.

The game was a bit of a pitching duel, with the score tied at 1-1 in the middle of the 4th. The Jaguars lone early run came from an Ethan Martin triple in the 2nd, and Akins helped his own cause with a sacrifice fly to center field to score Martin.

The game was salted away in the 4th, when the Jaguars plated 3 runs. Tucker Ollinger doubled, and Martin singled to score Ollinger. Akins walked and after a passed ball, Martin and Akins’ courtesy runner, Josiah Hefley, were knocked in by a Caden Cramer RBI single.

“I was happy with our defense,” said Coach Fritz. “Colby Peterson did a nice job for us in center field, chasing down and catching 3 well hit fly balls.”

The Jaguars raised their record to 4-2 on the year. Their next game for the JVR will be a home doubleheader against Humboldt on Friday afternoon.
