Jag Baseball Beats Cadets to Get to 500
6/25 @ Iowa Falls- Alden 11-9 W(9-9)
A continuation from last night's game as the Jags had another road game this time at Iowa Falls for a non- conference matchup against the Cadets. Bought somewhat equal teams in the record column the Jags were hunting to get to .500 on the year with a win. Down early the Jags clawed back but it was a five run 5th inning which gave the Jags their first lead. A couple of walks and an error loaded the bases and Kolton Ollinger hit a ball to short which got through scoring Karson Roper and Logan Jaeschke. Landon Vote would walk and the Jags who needed a big hit the last few games finally got one off the bat of Conner Rentz just past the outstretched arms of the third baseman. The hit would score two runners allowing the Jags to take the lead for good. The Jags kept their foot on the pedal in the 6th inning scoring another four runs which would end up being needed in the end. Again with bases loaded the big hit came off another sophomore Dawson Tuel who would belt one to the gap scoring two huge runs.
Sophomore Landon Vote took the mound and was little off his normal performance but Vote would do his job in his three innings of work keeping the Jags in striking distance. Facing the lineup the third time through the coaches went to senior Nick Field who was the perfect change of pace against the Cadets. Allowing four hits and three runs all which came in the 7th as the cadets made a push to tie the game. However, Field would get a lazy groundball to himself for the second out and a great backhand play but Dawson Tuel at third would secure the win for the Jags getting them to .500 on the season. A nice gutsy win for the Jaguars who look to be ascending upward as they reach the last week of the regular season. The week will be topped off with a huge postseason game to be played at Dayton on Friday July 3rd which will kick off the Jags postseason.
Jv Action: 4-4 T (12-0-2)
The Jags took a 4-2 lead going into the 5th inning but a couple of defensive miscues allowed the cadets to come back and tie the game. The Jags had some easy plays they just lost focus on and left the door open for the Cadets which credit to them took advantage of. Sophomores Dawson Tuel and Conner Rentz both shared the work load for the Jags. Conner would go three innings compared to Dawson's two. They would allow two hits but the defense wasn't helping any with uncharacteristic five errors. Ones coming at the end of the game which hurt the Jags in the end. The Cadet pitcher also kept the bats quiet. Josiah Hefley would single and score which in the end was a big run. The other lone hit came from Caden Cramer. A lot of fly balls ended up hurting the jv team. Never really hitting them deep enough to warrant a throw. Spencer Peterson and Caden Cramer would take advantage of their walks in the first inning coming around to score. Colby Peterson would also walk and score later in the game. A big stat that hurt the Jags was runners left on base. The Jags would leave seven runners on base, a stat you never want to see. In the end it's not a loss but with a few plays being made the Jags could have easily added to their win total today.
