SV HS Baseball vs SCC

6/27 South Central Calhoun W 7-4 (8-9) (4-6 conf.)

Conference foe South Central Calhoun Titans finished up the week for the Jags as they ended the week on a high note securing the win making them one game shy of .500 for the year. Ryan Stewart started on the mound for the Jags and did a good job going the distance while allowing his defense to help him. Karson Roper had a terrific game at shortstop making all the plays with seven ground balls hit his way, one being the last play of the game. The key stat was two walks and only two hit by pitches. Ryan might not have been perfect but he allowed his defense to help him and got the win on the mound.

The Offensive side of the game the Jags did something unfamiliar this year they finally had a fast start. Tyler Jondle would single, Roper would walk and a single up the middle by Bahr would score Jondle. Logan Jaeschke would also single-scoring Roper. Brady Hanson continued to stay hot getting a single and a walk by Allbee would load the bases. A squeeze bunt attempt would strand Jaeschke at third for the second out of the inning. However VanSickle would make up for it hitting a ball at the pitcher who misplayed it and the throw to first sailed allowing Hanson and Allbee to score. Five runs in total in the first inning was just what the Jags needed. The Jags would score a run in the third inning after Jaeschke would single and Hanson would drive him in. Brady Hanson had himself a day adding a double in the sixth inning eventually scoring when Dawson Tuel would hit a ball hard at the third baseman allowing Hanson to score, adding the insurance run. All in all the Jags would tally seven hits with two walks and one hit by pitch. Good defense was the name of the game and the fast start really propelled the Jags to a huge conference win. The Jags will face out against the Titans once more as their first round opponent in the district tournament next Saturday. Only one more week of the regular season for the Jags so make sure you come out to Dayton to catch some baseball.

JV Action: 8-5 W

Good win for the JV squad as Dawson Tuel and Conner Rentz took the mound. A few walks kept the Titans in the game but the freshmen duo kept the Titans at bay enough to secure the win. The Jags actually didn't have any errors on the day as hard as that is to believe. Some hard hit balls but errors allowed runners to score and walks added up with eleven total walks in four innings. Not like the Jags didn't want to hit but the pitch selection wasn't great and the Jags walked out of the contest with the 8 to 5 victory. With one week left in the schedule the JV teams record sits at 9 wins and 2 losses.
