Jag Baseball Finishes Season

7/6 DISTRICTS - East Sac 4-6 L (12-11)

A postponed contest was made up this past Monday at Jaguar Field. The SV baseball program came in confident but it was the Raiders of East Sac County who stole the home field advantage once again as they did previously this season. A disappointing end to the season as the Jags just couldn’t get a break in the frustrating game. The Jags didn’t overwhelm at the plate but when they did have a good contact it seemed to find the Raiders gloves. Logan Jaeschke had a home run robbed early in the game. Casey Hanson had a shot down the third baseline that was hard hit and if the fielder was anywhere but hugging the foul line, back against the fence it would have been a triple any other day. Facing a two run deficit the Jags looked to start the seventh inning off with a nice base hit until Conner Rentz unfortunately dislocated his knee coming out of the box on what could have potentially been a double and sparking the Jags offense giving them some confidence moving forward however the unfortunate event allowed the Raiders to throw an easy toss to first taking a possible double into the first out of the inning. Rentz would be helped off the field hopefully not too serious of an injury for the last baseball game of the year. It was just one of those games where not much went the Jags way unfortunately. Karson Roper took the mound and really threw a good ballgame. It would be a tough fourth inning that would doom the Jags. Credit to the Raiders they took advantage of a few defensive miscues and got a big hit when they needed it. One play going the Jags way could have ended the inning in a goose egg, unfortunately it was a four run inning making the Jags have to come from behind most of the game. Roper would finish with seven strikeouts walking three batters while he would pitch all seven innings. In the end the Jags just didn’t do enough at the plate to earn the win. Only scattering three hits on the night none bigger than Mason Bahr’s big three run blast in the sixth to give the Jags an opportunity in the seventh to make a comeback. Karson Roper and Dawson Tuel would add hits with Dawson’s being a gapper allowing Dawson to reach second base on the hit. The Jags would walk five times and only strikeout twice but the Raiders would make all the plays when they needed to make them, the difference in the game in the end. A tough last game to end a season full of promise but in the end the Jags did some good things this season and made some positive strides for the future. It sees all three seniors of Nick Field, Colin Johnson and Ryan Stewart end their careers as Jaguars. All three seniors deserve a ton of credit for facing adversity this season and choosing baseball and their teammates over working and making money for a summer activity. It is hard work and effort and these three seniors deserve a ton of credit for staying out for baseball as other classmates' priorities led them elsewhere. They gave a lot to the baseball program and will be missed on the field and in the dugout. While the Jags say goodbye to three seniors, a large group of juniors look to move the baseball program forward next year as seniors. They will be looking to move Jaguar Baseball to new heights next year making for an exciting future for the baseball program. A special thanks goes to JVR coach Roger Fritz stepping in this season coaching the young guns of the program and making the dugout and field a fun place to be. Coach Fritz was always quick to lend a helping hand doing an excellent job announcing for the Jaguar baseball pregame. Manager Bayley Martz would take over for Coach Fritz announcing the rest of the way for varsity games. Bayley also helped coaches out with the scoreboard for JV and JVR games throughout the season.
