SV Boys' Golf Claim 2nd in Final Quad of Season
Southeast Valley competed in their last Twin Lakes Conference Quad meet of the season on Friday, May 9th. The meet was played at Little Sioux Golf & Country Club, just outside of Sioux Rapids. The last time Southeast Valley, and South Central Calhoun, had played at Little Sioux was back in 2016. The four teams competing on a wonderful Friday afternoon were SV, SCC, Newell-Fonda, and the host team Sioux Central.
SCC claimed another 1st place finish, scoring a solid 150 team score. The Titans were led by Caleb Gaffney’s two under par score of 33, earning him another meet medalist victory. Newell-Fonda’s Guyson Lyman and SCC’s Charlie Nattress tied for runner-up honors with 36 cards.
Southeast Valley came in 2nd place shooting their best team score of the season with a 156. Will Comp paced the Jaguars with a solid 37 card. Freshman Dawson Tuel shot a nice 39 round, and the duo of Karson Roper and Brady Hanson rounded out the Jaguar team scoring, both shooting 40 on the night. Benson Konecne shot a 44 and Hayden Butrick shot a 46.
Newell-Fonda came in 3rd place, just two strokes behind SV, with a 158 score. Sioux Central shot 185. With the final meet of the regular season, and closing out the conference schedule, SV finished 7-4 in conference match-ups. The 7-4 record in conference duals and quads also matches last years conference record.
In the JV contest: Sioux Central shot a 234, SCC shot 207, and SV shot 168. Newell-Fonda did not fill a full JV team. JV scores for SV came in as follows: Declan McGuire 39, Linkin Roper 40, Hayden Greene 41, and Owen Pudenz 48.
With the regular season schedule under wraps, Southeast Valley now looks onward to postseason play. The Varsity will be competing at Sectionals in Sac City on Wednesday, May 14th. The top three team scores, as well as the top two individual scorers (plus ties) from non-qualifying teams will advance to Districts. Teams competing at Sectionals will be SV, SCC, East Sac County, Ogden, Manson-NW, Panorama, Kuemper Catholic, and Woodward-Granger.
