Boys' Track and Field at Cougar Relays

The Southeast Valley boys’ track and field team headed to Manson on Tuesday, April 29th for the boy’s Cougar Relays. This was a boys’ only meet with a varsity and JV division. At the conclusion of the meet, the Jaguars found themselves in second place in both divisions behind class 3A Carroll. On the varsity side, the Jaguars score 101 points and finished 17 points behind Carroll’s 118. In the JV division, Carroll rolled to 140 points, while Southeast Valley scored 107. Manson was third in the varsity team race while South Central Calhoun took third in the JV division.

               The relay quartet of Dreyvon Steadman, Logan Jaeschke, Bryce Harrison and Kayden Showers highlighted the night by not only winning the 4 x 100m and 4 x 200m relay but broke both the meet and school records in the process. The 4 x 200m relay winning time was 1:32.60 while the 4 x 100m relay time was 44.16. Kayden also took 1st in the 100m dash (11.60) and 2nd in the 200m dash (22.88). Dreyvon took 2nd in the 100m dash (11.66) and Logan took 5th in the 200m dash (24.16).

               Also picking up a relay title was the shuttle hurdle team of Alex Burger, Casey Hanson, Kolton Ollinger and Colin Johnson who won in a time of 1:04.04. Colin picked up 2nd place and Casey 5th place in the 400m hurdles running times of 57.12 and 1:01.66 (Career PR) respectively. Kolton took 6th in the 110m high hurdles (17.12). 

               The relays continued to be the strength of the night for the Jaguars as the 1600m medley relay and the 4 x 400m relays also picked up second place finishes. Kolton Ollinger, Casey Hanson, Owen Nuss and Lincoln Akins took ran a 4:03.39 in the 1600m medley while Alex, Logan, Bryce and Keelan Wellman ran 3:38.09 in the 4 x 400m. The 4 x 800m quartet of Ethan Tucker, Drew Dorsey, Landon Vote and Logan Bintz took 4th overall in a time of 9:35.14.

               Individually, Lincoln Akins picked up 3rd place in the 3200m run in a season best 10:48.70, Ian Brunner was 4th in the shot put (39-10.5”) and Steven Fisher was 5th in the discus (118-02”).

               In the JV division of the meet, the Jaguars found four 1st place finishes. Leo Ramirez found gold in the 100m dash (12.84) while Owen Nuss won the 200m dash (25.30). Also wining first was the distance medley relay team of Caden Cramer, Blaise Echevarria, Landon Vote and Caden Kaltschnee in a time of 4:36.52 while the 4 x 100m team of Jacob Paterson, Riley Fawcett, Leo Ramirez and Jaiden Johnson ran 49.24 to finish 1st.

               Second place finishes for the Jaguars JV squad was Joe Kauffman (discus, 95-11”), Riley Fawcett (100m dash, 12.95) and Blaise Echevarria (800m run, 2:40.50). Grant Farnham was 3rd in the 800m run with a season best of 2:40.81 while Jaiden Johnson (200m, 26.47) also finished 3rd.

               Fourth place finishes went to Ian Brunner (Discus, 92-08”), Steven Fisher (shot put, 35-04”), and Caden Kaltschnee (1600m, 6:01.77) with a season best. The 4 x 400m relay team of Landon Vote, Caden Cramer, Blaise Echevarria and Wyatt Blair also finished 3rd place overall in 4:30.12.

               The Jaguars will head to Sioux Rapids to compete in the Twin Lakes Conference meet on Tuesday, May 6th. They will complete their regular schedule on Thursday, May 8th in Lake City and Monday, May 12th in Sac City. The varsity will then compete in the class 2A state qualifying meet in Ogden on Thursday, May 15th
