SV Boys Track & Field Compete at the Mustang Relays
The Southeast Valley boys’ track & field team had a busy weekend this past Friday April 24th and Saturday 25th as the whole team competed at the Mustang Relays in Newell on Friday as well as having five athletes compete in three different events at the Drake Relays.
At the Mustang Relays in Newell, the Jaguars having won their first four meets of the season were looking to keep the streak alive on Friday and when the the 4 x 400m relay finished at the end of the night, Southeast Valley once again found themselves at top of the team standing once again, scoring exactly 200 points. The second consecutive meet of the year reaching 200 points. Manson Northwest Webster was second with 168 points.
Lincoln Akins, Kolton Ollinger, Ian Brunner and Deegan Brandel led the Jaguars. Lincoln was a double event winner, winning both the 3200m and 1600m run. His times of 10:31.22 and 4:48.58 were not only his PRs for the season, but both times set meet records as well. Kolton Ollinger also set a meet record in the 110m high hurdles running 15.43 while also winning the long jump in a jump of 19’ 2”.
In the throwing events Ian Brunner picked up the gold medal in the shot put with a throw of 43’ 9.5” while taking silver with a PR throw in the discus (109’ 9”). Teammate Deegan Brandel finished ahead of Ian in the discus to win with a throw of 135’ 3” and claimed 3rd place in the shot put. Evan Frana threw a PR in the shot put of 39’ 1” to take silver behind Ian and ahead of Deegan. Brock Norine claimed 4th in the discus with a throw of 97’ 11”.
Kayden Showers was an individual winner in the 100m dash (11.34), while Logan Jaeschke was 2nd in the 100m (11.54). Ethan Martin was 2nd in the long jump (17-9.25”) and 200m dash (25.43) while Keelan Wellman claimed 2nd place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.31 which is 7th all-time fastest in school history.
A plethora of athletes took fourth place in the meet. Owen Nuss set the 8th fastest two - mile time in school history with an 11:00.37 in the 3200m for fourth while also finishing 5th in the 1600m (5:10.49). Kasen Loeffler took 4th in the 800m run (2:17.77) while Trennis Stevens was fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:02.68). Drew Dorsey was 5th in the 800 (2:19.66).
In the relays, the shuttle hurdle team of Alex Burger, Casey Hanson, Kolton Ollinger and Colin Johnson set a meet record in 1:00.86 to finish 1st. Alex and Colin joined Kayden and Logan Jaeschke to win and set the meet record in the sprint medley relay. Kolton Ollinger, Riley Fawcett, Bryce Harrison and Colden Maple won the 4 x 100m relay in 45.65. A 3:51.48 by Casey, Bryce, Keelan and Landon Vote took silver medal honors in the distance medley relay, while the 4 x 800m relay of Drew Dorsey, Ethan Tucker, August Akins and Blaise Echevarria was 3rd place running 9:27.99.
Also finishing 3rd place overall was the 4 x 200m relay (1:42.98) of Asher Loeffler, Parker Bintz, Tucker Ollinger and Josiah Hefley and the 4 x 400m relay (3:51.15) of Ian Brunner, Ethan Tucker, Josiah Hefley, Landon Vote.
A handful of JV events also placed and set season bests. Trennis Stevens was 3rd in the 100m high hurdles (18.72, PR), Colden Mapel was 6th in the 100m dash (12.34, PR), August Akins was 6th in the 1600m run (5:15.58). The JV sprint medley (Riley Fawcett, Jacob Paterson, Jaiden Johnson, Trennis Stevens) and 4 x 800m (Joiah Hefley, Logan Bintz, Kasen Loeffler, Wyatt Blair) took 4th place while the 4 x 400m relay (Tucker Ollinger, Parker Bintz, Asher Loeffler, Chris Andrews) took 5th.
The Jaguars will compete at Manson on Tuesday, April 28th and Lake City on Friday, May 1st before heading to Pocahontas on Tuesday, May 5th for the Twin Lakes Conference meet.
