SV Boys Track & Field at Home Coed Meet

The Southeast Valley boys’ track team continued to push the limits in Gowrie on Monday, April 20th in their own home coed relays. The Jaguars coming off an impressive performance in Manson the week before, made the home meet not just their fourth consecutive victory, but did it in a total team effort.

 The Jaguars used 17 season best finishes, 12 first place finishes, 7 top ten performances, four meet records and two freshmen records enroute to scoring 227 points as a team to claim their title; the most points scored in school history.

“The last two meets have been a total team effort. We are scoring points right now in the field events, the distance events, the sprints and the hurdles. Everybody is contributing to our team score, even if they aren’t scoring, the way they are pushing each other in practice to get better has been awesome to watch” commented Coach Nuss. The Jaguars took 1st in 6 of the 7 relays winning the sprint medley relay, the 4 x 800m relay, the shuttle hurdle relay, the distance medley relay, the 4 x 100m relay and the 4 x 400m relay while just missing out in the 4 x 200m relay that took 2nd place.

Meet records were set by the SMR (L. Jaeschke, K. Showers, A. Burger, C. Johnson) set a meet record in 1:35.43; 2nd all-time in school history as well as the The 4 x 100m relay (C. Hanson, L. Jaeschke, C. Johnson, K. Showers) finishing in a time of 44.39

The 4 x 800m relay (E. Tucker, L. Vote, D. Dorsey, O. Nuss) ran a season best time of 9:16.09. Crossing the finish line first in 1:08.56 was the shuttle hurdle relay (T. Stevens, L. Ramirez, K. Wellman, C. Mapel) and the distance Medley relay team (C. Hanson, B. Harrison, L. Jaeschke, L. Akins) finished in 3:54.28. and the 4 x 400m relays (K. Ollinger, O. Nuss, C. Hanson, A. Burger) stopped the clock at 3:39.85.

The 4 x 200m team of Leo Ramirez, Ethan Martin, Keelan Wellman and Colden Mapel took 2nd as well in a time of 1:38.71. 

Individual winners for the Jaguars were Deegan Brandel (Discus, 139-04”, PR), Alex Burger (Long Jump, 21-04.5” & 110m High hurdles, 15.41 Meet record), Kayden Showers (100m dash, 11.70), Tennis Stevens (400m hurdles, 1:02.06, PR), and Lincoln Akins (1600m run, 4:53.59, PR).

Second place finishes went to Ian Brunner (Shot Put, 43-01.5”), Colden Mapel (HJ, 5-06), Kasen Loeffler (3200m run, 11:38.39), Kolton Ollinger (110m HH, 16.14), Owen Nuss (800m run, 2:09.65 PR) and Colin Johnson (200m dash 23.42, PR). Josiah Helfey also finished 2nd in the 400m hurdles in a freshmen record time of 1:02.25.

 Bronze place winners went to Deegan in the shot put (39-8.75”), Ethan Martin, long jump (19-00”), August Akins, 3200m (11:39.82, PR), Landon Vote, 400m dash (56.09, PR), August Akins, 800m run, (2:24.64, PR) and Bryce Harrison, 200m dash (23.63). Tennis Stevens picked up a 4th place finish in the 400m dash (57.22) and Kolton Ollinger picked up a 5th place finish in the 100m dash (12.27).

The Jaguars also had several JV events competing in the meet as well. Notably, the freshmen sprint medley team of Parker Bintz, Tucker Ollinger, Ethan Martin, and Josiah Hefley and the 1600m medley team of Asher Loeffler, P. Bintz, T. Ollinger and K. Loeffler both set freshmen team records running 1:48.22 and 4:12.34 respectively.

Southeast Valley next competes at Newell Fonda on Friday, April 24th, before heading back to Manson on Tuesday, April 28th and then to Lake City on Friday, May 1st.
