Boys' TrackResult at Ross Samuelson Relays
In the final tune-up for the Twin Lakes Conference track & field meet, the Southeast Valley boys’ track & field team headed to Lake City to compete in the Ross Samuelson Relays on Friday, May 2nd. When the final race was over, the Jaguars found themselves in second place, 2 points behind host and team champions South Central Calhoun and a point and a half ahead of third place Sioux Central.
Southeast Valley picked up a one-two finish in the 100m dash, won the 200m dash, the 400m hurdles, the 4 x 100m relay, the shuttle hurdle relay, the 4 x 200m relay and the 4 x 400m relay. Southeast Valley also picked up a second place finish in the shot put, the 4 x 800m relay and 3rd in the 800m sprint medley to highlight the night.
Kayden Showers and Dreyvon Steadman were separated by .01 seconds in the 100m dash with Kayden (11.37) edging Dreyvon (11.38). Kayden also won the 200 in 22.79. Both athletes teamed up with Bryce Harrison and Logan Jaeschke to also take gold in both the 4 x 200 and 4 x 100m relays. While the 4 x 200m was just off their season best time in 1:32.81, they broke their own school record in 44.04 on a cold windy night.
The Jaguars also showed strength in the hurdle events with Alex Burger, Casey Hanson, Kolton Ollinger and Colin Johnson ran 1:04.19 to win the shuttle hurdle. Alex and Casey later took 1st and 5th in the 400m hurdles running 57.62 and 1:01.78 respectively. Between the two events, Kolton and Alex finished 5th and 6th in the 110m high hurdles. Kolton, Casey, Colin and Logan J. also finished 3rd in the sprint medley relay (1:40.80).
In the 400 and 800 events on Friday, the 4 x 400m relay team of Alex, Bryce, Owen Nuss and Colin Johnson took gold in a time of 3:38.35 while Ethan Tucker, Owen, Drew Dorsey and Lincoln Akins found silver in the 4 x 800m relay. Owen also took 4th in the 400m dash in a time of 55.30 and Ethan took 6th in the 800m run (2:19.07). Freshmen Landon Vote got 7th in the 800m run (2:25.48) and Trennis Stevens picked up a 8th place finish in the 400m dash (59.72).
Field events were led by Ian Brunner on Friday who took 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 41-02”. Kolton Ollinger had a career best jump of 18-06” in the long jump for fourth, while Bryce Harrison had a jump of 17-0” to finish 6th.
Other notable performances Friday night was the 1600m medley relay team of Jacob Paterson, Jaiden Johnson, Landon Vote and Logan Bintz was 7th. Jacob also had a season best of 16-11” in the long jump to finish 7th. Leo Ramirez ran a season best 12.38 in the 100m dash for 6th. Leo and Jacob along with Jaiden Johnson and Riley Fawcett also took 6th in the 4 x 100m relay with a season best JV time of 48.60. Running a pair of season best in the 800m run was Caden Kaltschnee (2:37.63) and Grant Farnham (2:39.17). Caden Cramer recorded a person best in the 200m dash (27.39).
The Jaguars have three meets left in the regular season before their class 2A state qualifying meet in Ogden on Thursday, May 15th. Southeast Valley will make the trip to Sioux Central for the Twin Lakes Conference meet on Tuesday, May 6th before heading back to Lake City on Thursday, May 8th. Monday, May 12th will find the Jaguars competing in the East Sac Relays in Sac City.
