Boys Track & Field Win TLC Conference Meet
The Southeast Valley boys’ track and field team headed to Pocahontas on Tuesday, May 5th for the Twin Lakes Conference track meet. At the end of the night, the Jaguars found themselves at the top of the podium in the team standings for the second straight year and third time in the last five years. Southeast Valley scored 169 points to outpace 2nd place Sioux Central who scored 117 points. Manson NW Webster was third with 102.
Southeast Valley had 6 first place conference champions. Colin Johnson was a double conference champion winning both the 110m high hurdles in a time of 14.86 and the 400m low hurdles in a season best time of 55.12. Kayden Showers was an individual winner in the 100m dash.
Three relays also were conference champions. The first was the sprint medley relay team of Bryce Harrison, Logan Jaeschke, Kayden Showers and Alex Burger winning in 1:37.65. Alex also led off the winning shuttle hurdle time with Casey Hanson, Kolton Ollinger and Colin Johnson. Their winning time was a new conference meet record of 1:00.29. Finally, winning the 4 x 100m relay in a time of 44.40 was the quartet of Casey, Logan, Bryce and Colin.
Southeast Valley also had five runner-up conference events as well. Alex Burger was 2nd in the long jump in 20-07.50 and the 400m hurdles in a time of 55.71. Logan Jaeschke was 2nd in the 100m dash in 11.39 and the 200m dash in 23.05. Lincoln Akins took 2nd in the 1600m run with a time of 4:49.27 and also was third in the 3200m run (10:34.64).
Second in the distance medley relay of Keelan Wellman, Bryce Harrison, Landon Vote and Owen Nuss finished in a time of 3:54.29. Also taking the silver medal conference honors were Kasen Loeffler, Drew Dorsey, Logan Bintz and Ethan Tucker in the 4 x 800m relay with a winning time of 9:21.71.
Winning bronze in the shot put was Ian Brunner (40-08”). Fourth place finishes went to Deegan Brandel (discus, 137-08”), Colden Mapel (high jump, 5-10”), Kolton Ollinger (110m high hurdles, 15.66), and Landon Vote (800m, 2:14.98). The 4 x 400m quartet of Vote, Wellman, Ethan Martin and Logan Bintz also took 4th place (3:48.44).
Fifth place finishes were Trennis Stevens (400m, 57.57) and the 4 x 200m relay (1:41.23) team of Tucker Ollinger, Ethan Martin, Keelan Wellman, and Colden Mapel. Seventh place team points were earned by Kolton Ollinger (LJ, 18-09.25”), Josiah Hefley (400m, 58.06, PR), and Owen Nuss (800m, 2:21.64). Owen was also 8th in the 1600m run (5:10.81) while Evan Frana took 8th in the shot put (39-00.50”).
The Jaguars will conclude their regular season on Monday, May 11th at Sac City before heading to Sioux Rapids (Sioux Central) on Thursday, May 14th for the class 2A state qualifying meet as the Jaguars try and qualify for the Iowa State Track & Field Championships in Des Moines the following weekend.
