SV Boys Open Up Indoor Track & Field Season
The Southeast Valley boys’ track team started the 2026 season with two indoor track meets this past week. Last Monday, March 9th, the Jaguars headed to the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls before they traveled to Ames on Friday, March 13th for the Iowa Track Coaches Association Indoor State Championships where they competed in the 2A division.
On Friday in Ames, the meet was highly selected based on previous times from the past year, which limited competition. The Jaguars top performance was the 4 x 100m relay of Casey Hanson, Logan Jaeschke, Bryce Harrison and Kayden Showers who finished 6th in a time of 44.72. Finishing 8th was the 4 x 400m relay team of Colin Johnson, Kolton Ollinger, Owen Nuss and Bryce Harrison. Their time was 3:38.85.
A couple other events just missed scoring team points. Colin Johnson was 9th in the 60m hurdles running a 8.70 that broke his own school record he set Monday in Cedar Falls. Kolton Ollinger moved up to second all time on the school list in the 60m hurdles with a 8.89. Alex Burger had set that time on Monday running 8.91 and now sits third all-time after Kolton moved ahead of him.
Alex, however, took 9th place in the 400m dash in a time of 52.59 and 10th in the long jump, jumping 19-05.75”. He had a jump of 20-05.00” on Monday. Bryce Harrison and Logan Jaeschke picked up a pair of all-time bests in the 60m dash running 7.33 and 7.39 respectively. Bryce is now 2nd and Logan 4th on the top-ten lists.
In the 800m dash, Owen Nuss dropped two seconds off his 800m run time from Monday to run a 2:10.19. Logan Jaeschke competed in the 200m dash finishing in 23.60.
On Monday in Cedar Falls, the Jaguars had several other events to compete. In the 200m dash, Alex ran a 23.81, Colin finished in 24.17 and Kolton ran a 25.31. In the 60m dash, freshman Coledon Mapel made the school all-time top ten list with a 7.71. Riley Fawcett also ran a 7.95 and Jaiden Johnson ran 8.71 in the 60m.
Keelan Wellman, returning state qualifier, opened his season in the 400m dash with a 56.85, followed by freshman Ethan Martin in 1:00.50 and Trennis Stevens in 1:00.84. In the 800m run Ethan Tucker (2:28.24) and Drew Dorsey (2:36.67).
Ian Brunner started the year off with a career PR throw of 41-10.75” in the shot put. Evan Frana and Deegan Brandel also set career PRs with throws of 35-05.75” and 35-01.75” respectively. Long jump Kolton Ollinger (18-04.50”) and Jaiden Johnson (15-01.25”) competed.
The Jaguars also ran two relays. The 4 x 200m relay team of Keelan Wellman, Tennis Stevens, Ethan Martin and Coledon Mapel ran a 1:46.53. The 4 x 800m relay team finished the race in 9:56.61. Members of the 4 x 800 were Logan Bintz, August Akins, Landon Vote, Kasen Loeffler.
The boys’ track team will compete in one more indoor track meet at Humboldt on Friday, March 20th before they start the outdoor campaign on Thursday, April 2nd at Story City.
