Boys Track & Field Competes at the SCC Ross Samuelson Relays

The Southeast Valley boys’ track team competed in the SCC Ross Samuelson Relays on Friday, May 1st in Lake City. In a tune up meet before the Twin Lakes Conference meet on Tuesday May 5th, the Jaguars continued to roll winning their 6th meet of the season. The Jaguars scored 151 points to beat second place and conference foe Sioux Central’s 111 points.

Kayden Showers was a double gold medalist winning both the 100m dash (11.28) and the 200m dash (22.70). Logan Jaeschke was second behind Showers in the 200m dash (22.97) and took 4th in the 100m dash (11.66). Alex Burger won the 400m dash in a time of 51.02 for the second fastest time in school history.  

Running the tenth fastest time in school history of 1:34.58 was the quartet of Keelan Wellman, Bryce Harrison, Casey Hanson and Logan Jaeschke in the 4 x 200m to win gold. Casey, Logan, Bryce and Kayden won the 4 x 100 in a time of 44.10. Kolton Ollinger, Owen Nuss, Landon Vote and Ethan Martin in the last race of the night also claimed 1st place honors in the 4 x 400m relay with a time of 3:39.73.

Landon Vote, Owen Nuss along with Lincoln Akins and Keelan Wellman took 2nd place in the 4 x 800m relay with a season best and 7th all-time of 8:47.45. Lincoln took 2nd in the 1600m run as well in a season best 4:46.29 in the 1600m which improves his 3rd fastest time on the top-ten school bests. Owen and Landon took 3rd and 4th in the 800m respectively. Owen ran a season best of 2:08.98, while Landon ran a 2:11.70. Kolton Ollinger picked up a 2nd place finish in the 110m high hurdles in 15.62, while Alex Burger was 4th in the same race (17.28).

Several PRs and placewinners were also found in the field events on Friday. Kolton was second in the long jump with a career best of 20’ 3” which moved him up to 5th all time. Colden Mapel jumped a career best and 4th all-time high jump of 5’ 10” to finish 3rd. Ian Brunner set a PR in the discus with a throw of 121’ 8” and finished 4th in the shot put (42’ 4”). Deegan Brandel found 4th place in the discus with a throw of 129’ 10”.  

Other outstanding performances went to August Akins in the 3200m run with the 9th fastest and season best of 11:12.21. Trennis Stevens took 5th in the 400m hurdles with a season best of 1:00.58 and Tucker Ollinger improved his 400m time to 57.33 for the year to take 6th.

Kasen Loeffler found a PR in the 1600m run (5:09.09) and so did Blaise Echevarria (5:50.01). Blaise also ran a season best of 59.56 in the 400m dash. Jaiden Johnson and Jake Paterson also found season bests in the long jump.

The Jaguars will next compete at the Twin Lakes Conference in Pocahontas on May 5th before heading back to Lake City on Thursday, May 7th.
